A Datejust for a dress watch and a Sub for everything else. That's all I'll ever need.

I'd say a good collection contains pieces which all bear meaning to you and perhaps, more importantly, are all worn.

Safe queens need not apply.

Whatever you enjoy, wear and can afford.
Additions based on milestones are special too.
Personally I also value diversity within a collection.

This is said perfectly. If you can't achieve this then you just own watches.

A good mix of old and vintage references like Kermit and red 1680, or gilt 1675 and new ceramic pepsi

Reading each reply, I think I'm heading in the right direction with my collection.

1. Affordability. I have only bought stainless steel references. The JC2 being the most expensive at £9,700.

Each reference has been bought from an AD at MSRP or 10% off.

I can not afford a precious metal reference without selling, which I don't do.

2. Time. I bought my first reference from an AD in September 2005, a lv for £2,650. The last reference was the explorer I in June 2019 for £5,000.

3. Collection. It consists of four 5 digit and six 6 digit Rolex references so a good mix of old and new.

It includes references which usually get overlooked such as the gv and explorer II.

It does not include the BLNR as I do not like the colours.

4. Story. Most of the references have a memory or milestone in my life. I bought the Hulk after coming through a 9 hour heart operation, which I nearly didn't make. So every day now is a bonus.

5. Satisfaction. The collection makes me smile. It joins up the of periods of my life.

The hobby has introduced me to lovely people on this forum and those at my local AD.

6. Future. I would like to add blro and a daytona for sure as well as a new dj36.

In three years time, for a big birthday I would like add an aquanaut or a nautilus.

7. End Game. I have promised my brother I will leave him my entire collection as he enjoys this hobby too.

Thank you for reading.

One of each model. There are no wrong choices. Get what you like the best and don't think about resale values.

Don't need different colors of the same style. I made that mistake before.
