Born and bred, was there yesterday (central), and wearing a 30 year old DJ

Most crime is predictable, and that goes for wherever you are. Don’t flash it around, don’t get drunk, and don’t look like a target – you’ll be fine

It’s probably safer on you than it would be in a hotel room

Just be aware of your surroundings, and it’s just like any big city anywhere – if anybody says to you “nice watch”, just reply “nice teeth” ……

If it is the regular Explorer no. Only GMT watches work when leaving your home area.

You will definately need to bring your watch with you ,as It will be needed as a down payment for a pint of beer in old London Town .

I’m born/raised in south london. And frankly it depends on where you visit. Most of it is fine but assuming you’re a tourist you won’t be visiting any of the council estates (‘projects’ as known in the USA)

Would you be happy to walk through a rough council estate in your own country wearing say a YG sub? I doubt it

I’m happy to wear all my Rolexes all around london, but they are SS. I wouldn’t flash the BLNR in Croydon (south london) near where I live, and I certainly wouldn’t wear any PM - because it is rough and it’s a risk. But people do, and they’re usually drug dealers.

In central london it’s probably the best place to wear any watch you want. Just yesterday I was wearing Exp2, wife GMT master 1, table across from us guy had a seadweller, another table a sub. A guy wearing a 5711 on the tube.

Exp2 is one of the most under the radar watches and you’re only hanging around tourist areas you’ll be fine. Watch for pick pockets - my foreign wife has had her bag stollen in soho and was mugged and had her iPhone X last year ripped from her hands in kings crosso. London can be rough, but it’s not English people doing these crimes ...

It is. Well, The New English.

Your advice is pretty accurate though, if you avoid s/hole areas and stay alert then the chances of being turned over for your watch is slim.

Have a nice trip, OP.

he is asking because of what he is seeing being reported on the news, you cannot blame him,

you will be ok if you use your head, if you are worried just leave it in denmark.

I don’t get these threads. I wouldn’t willingly go anywhere I didn’t feel safe regardless of whether or not I was wearing a watch.

I suspect that if you asked about safety while visiting the Vatican, someone would pop up to give a warning. A sense of perspective is always useful.....

They may reside here but they’re not English. 40% of London’s population isn’t even born in the UK. Doesn’t bother me, neither is my wife. Just a point to the OP, that we are not as savage as the media makes out.

I agree though with the rest of your summary. Be as vigilant as you would be in Paris and Rome other such places that have gone to sh1t in terms of crime

If you don’t feel personally safe, don’t take the watch and don’t go.

Hi I was wondering if it was safe to wear my Rolex in Walmart. I was scared somebody might try and lick it and run off.

Sitting in the LHR lounge right now - everybody and their grandmother are wearing Rolex. Lots of Submariners, Datejusts, Day Dates, but also DSSD and SS, YG and Oysterflex Daytonas, all right here, right now.

I presume there are some areas of London where you may not want to run around flexing your Rolex, but in much of the rest of the city you'll need one just to blend in.

Just wear it. Trouble can find you anywhere. I almost had to roll with some guy in my town’s Walmart. A small town in Virginia and the last place I’d expect.

I never felt that unsafe while I lived in England.

its the first place i would expect it. Im from a small town in Montana. Roll in with nice stuff and you will get messed with

People are always worried about cities. Rural is probably when you have more issues with this kind of stuff. Fancy cars, fancy watches etc.

It'll be fine...wore my Explorer around London for 2 weeks in 2017. If you keep an eye out you will see lots of cool watches in the wild. As in all big cities be deliberate in your purpose and don't make yourself a target. A friend of mine in Cambridge calls it mastering the bit** face.:)

I live in London and wear my SD43 everywhere. London, like any major multicultural city has its nice parts and not so nice parts, but is still one of the safest cities in the world.. In central London you should be absolutely fine. Of course the media only reports the people who occasionally get mugged for their watch, phone or bag. It will never report the tens of thousands each day who don’t.

I am more twitchy in Copenhagen, one of the Rolex ADs was robbed at gunpoint in front of my eyes last December..... needless to say I pulled my sleeve over my Sky Dweller very quickly

You’ll be lucky to make it out of the airport with it...once you get in the city though, the watch would be the least of my worries. You might not make it...great, educated question.

I was nodding in complete agreement to this post until your last comment (“it’s not English people doing these crimes”) which ruined it for me. What stats or research do you have to back up this statement? In the absence of any evidence to back up such a statement, please cease from peddling such xenophobic claptrap.

the murder rate is 13X higher... so yes im serious

Ive lived here for years before moving to the UK, so im familiar with the city. I live in the loop very, very close to downtown, and at night its way more sketch than London.

My wife walked every day probably a mile to the train station in London for her commute at 5am... no way (hypothetically) she would do that here assuming she took public transport.

USAA charges me almost double to insure my watches in Houston vs London too. So thats telling

Houston may be "safe" depending on the frame of reference. Coming from the UK it most certainly is not. Vs St Louis or something sure
