Could somebody with a lot more knowledge and experience maybe throw some other ideas out there?

I don't want to be paying over £20,000 FYI.

Thank you

The idea of a one watch WG would be awesome. The question is more “can you live with less variety?” If the answer to this is yes, then having an all WG Daytona is an awesome choice. I mean really, is there anytime that an all WG Daytona doesn’t work?? LOL! I think it’s versatile to suite all occasions.

If you do end up getting one please post pics!

;o) why thank you, and I guess my having had Rolex watches for nearly 30 years and owned pretty much every model - well I guess it gives me a certain amount of latitude to recognise price of a precious metal Daytona will go up - I don't recall them ever going down ;o)

And given that at WF ( which is where the OP watch is listed ) I bought the same ref 6 months back is now £3k more than I paid.

But hey - you are right, my crystal ball maybe a bit tainted ;o)

Daytona Steel model prices overtime to give some context - a bit old, but I can't think its gone too far south of this

Your saying all the right things to convince me!! The main thing thats putting me off is me trading in 2017 & 2014 watches for a 14 year old watch, although as has been mentioned it has just been serviced so I guess it shouldn’t be an issue.

It looks great on your wrist!!

NAHH!!! although over the years god knows I must have paid them a small fortune. But if its just come back from RSC make sure its got the right number of links too!!!! mine didn't but WF gave me one after I complained "they didnt tell me it wasnt a full bracelet"....it worked btw

Great reference in the panda, race grey, and especially the meteorite, IMO. Too small for my wrist (8+"), though...

Looks quite good, I really wanted to like this piece more than I did.. I love the blue dial

But, I went for the 519LN instead with the black C bezel, the way it makes the dial pop and complete the watch just did it for me. Yes, people can hate on this; but its like a PM reverse panda

I know right! I mean to be completely honest I rarely get the Datejust out, my BLNR gets 90% of wrist time so I don’t think Downsizing to just the one will bother me too much. Just like you say, is there anytime a WG Daytona won’t fit the bill?!?

Telling you that WG is the way... I would go with the 509 blue dial if must be a Daytona. But like the earlier comment..... Look at a GMT WG Black Dial 2016-2018. They are around 32k and you get a ceramic bezel. I messed with a YM on Flex bracelet and while it was soft to the touch.... it just didn’t feel substantial enough. Your are going to spend the money so might as well go full WG.

I’m a big fan of the 116509 and have 3.

I have the one you are thinking of purchasing.

RSC offers a trade in for $1800 for a brand new bezel. You have to give yours to them. Did that. Couple of times.

Now, the only issue I have with this dial is the lume, which is minimal at best at 3, 6 and 9.

My favorite 116509 is the new blue dial, followed by the panda dial Arabic, then the slate grey Arabic and finally this black dial.

Also, it looks like the watch you are thinking of buying has the old clasp. I would get one with the new clasp, it’s better.

I hope this helps.

I’ve also got the 116655 at the back of my head, the bonus with that reference is I can pick one up 2/3 years old where as with the WG Daytona the specific one I’m looking at is a 2005 example, albeit it has just returned from RSC.

Were you not too impressed with the YM on OF then?

I agree with you for sure but unfortunately I can’t afford the blue dial, wish I could!

I also like the other dials this reference comes in, maybe I’ll wait to see what comes up. But I do love how sporty this specific dial is.

It’s just my personal preference...... I just wasn’t feeling the OF bracelet. I love the solid look and feel of WG bracelet. Now perhaps would change my mind if was on a Daytona.

My experience is that when I traded 2 SS for 1 PM watch, it did not stick. One was not enough, for me. But I do like variety and I do like to trade a lot.

Maybe it will work for you, having only 1 watch. The WG Daytona is a beauty!

I recommend you have a WG Rolex, but you may find, if you’re like me, that you “need more than one Rolex.” Can you add it and keep one that you already own?

Man, what a thing to say.... “I need more than one Rolex.” Sounds funny when I say it or type it. But it’s my hobby, my only vice, and I do like to own more than one.

Happy hunting! .

Post pics when you pull the trigger.

+ 1 on both those statements. i'd add that the older clasp also centres on the underside of the wrist with equal links, whereas the newer clasps tend to centre at 6/4 for me ..... due to it being smaller in length. Its not a problem, just worth noting if you by online.

I just got this beauty a few days ago. I agree with the above members that you should act now!

Regarding bracelet vs OF, I think there is no bad choice. I prefer a full PM bracelet on a PM Daytona. I would get the patek Aquanaut only on rubber though. These configurations are more 'correct' to me.

I denounced WG because I thought it was rhodium plated but seems it's not on Rolex. Now I'm on the hunt for the WG blue dial to go with my YG green dial. He needs a friend.

Slate Grey with a touch of red works really well.

also numerous exotic dials available for this reference nobody talks about on this forum (for a reason?)

Black MOP !
rather boring on pictures until you see it in live in bright light or a descent picture like this…..

But yes, agree, blue would be the safer choice!

Okay okay, Panda also not bad!

touch choices !

Glad they left the bezels alone in the PM versions. Even Rolex knows it’s more versatile that way.

Of the three Daytona's I currently own, and the ceramic steel versions I did, the 519 is by far my favorite.
