The Dow is up ~16% YTD. Tell him you’re happy to pay in full in advance at a 16% interest rate.

Regular production watch. It’s the opposite of “special order”

I would put that amount of money to Rolex to order a watch, but not a Rolex authorized dealer. it's just too much risk!

Most US cards only offer protection (back charges, etc) for 3-6 months. Anything after then you’re SOL. I’d confirm by calling the number on the back of your card before making the charge.

I’d also work out a different alternative with the AD (smaller deposit).

Listen, hype or not, some dealers just suck. Even today there are still great Rolex dealers. They won’t discount anything, but they’re great to work with. Gotta look to find them though.

Anyone that treats me like less of a person when I’m dropping $10-50k on a Rolex doesn’t ever get my biz. I once went into an AP dealer in Vegas (wearing a $37k watch btw) and was treated like I owed them something. I would’ve bought a RO Chrono right then and there but was so turned off I left. I then went next door (it was in a mall), was treated with total class and respect by the Hublot dealer and left with a beautiful Hublot.

I don’t care how hot a market is. I’ll never buy from a snotty dealer. There’s always a good one somewhere else that deserves my biz.

No.

But you can join the line of people demanding their money back at the bankruptcy hearing.

Establish a relationship with an AD and you won’t have to second guess or question these decisions.

Vote with your dollar.

I paid 5k deposit for a 9k sub. But it was a reputable dealer; bankruptcy unlikely.

I have purchased five Rolexes (one from an AD in Vienna, and four from an AD here in the states) and have never not once paid a cent deposit for anything.

I have the meteorite GMT coming any day now and even offered to pay a deposit on that one... AD wouldn’t hear of it.

It may be common practice in some places but certainly not everywhere. My local here won’t accept deposits either. (My purchases are not from my local as my local doesn’t like fellows with long hair, tattoos, and hoodies.).

I prefer that my money earns interest for me,not increase the cash flow for the ADs business .

Have never paid full or deposit upfront .

I would not accept that condition, so much can happen in a year.

My AD takes 20% and I think that's too much.

What if you order it and decide to change your mind? Now he is stuck with a watch no one else want. Hmmm. If buyer wants it then follow AD policy or else find another store.

I once paid 100% upfront for a watch that existed in the chains inventory, that would be transferred within a week. I wouldn’t do it under any other condition. A lot of folks are getting played like suckers for material stuff, but it’s their money and nobody is forcing them.

Hell no i wouldn't leave any money upfront unless you have a written contract that gives you a full refund at anytime not store credit and a guaranteed date when you will get the timepiece. That's way to much money upfront.

To obtain it in a year I would give my AD the full payment up front.

If you don't or can't trust the AD, don't do it.

I agree. Some money down would be ok with me, just to show that I'm a serious buyer. A year is a long time and who knows what could happen in the meantime.

I’ve got some great watches and never had to pay a penny as a deposit. However times have changed with Rolex and if I had to now to secure a watch I really wanted, I would. Wouldn’t pay full amount, but 10% or 20% isn’t unreasonable. I’d pay it on my credit card so I’d be covered anyway.

I might consider giving 10% if fully refundable.
I reserved my spot in line for a hot new Mercedes model for a $150 refundable deposit.

This kind of arrangement would be fine with me. Though it would have to have a delivery date noted or full refund.
