It's only underrated by those who have never owned it. Everyone says it for everything, but you have to wear this one to understand how impressive it is. The capability mixed with the proportions are perfect. Rolex got it absolutely perfect with this watch. I love wearing my SD43, but the 4K, to me, is the pinnacle of the form and function marriage of Rolex divers.

Missed this thread yesterday.

Some amazing photos of the SD4K, and not just from my buddy Mark the OP.

Seems, rightly, that those who own an SD4K swear by them as one of the most perfect tool watches of recent times.

Had mine since 1st May 2014 and have no intention of letting it go anytime soon, or ever!

I thought they nailed it with the 116600 despite it not being very popular at the time, it’s nice to see its popularity growing.

I have other watches that now dominate my wrist time, so probably only wear the SD 5% of the time, but that just adds to the enjoyment when I do wear it.

Love my SD4k - great watch if you want a classic sub but don’t like the fat lugs and cyclops.
Also I love the graduated minutes and the HEV is just a bonus (have a SeaMaster as my first nice watch c.20 years ago and just like them).

OP - did you remove the divers extension?

I've always felt the SD4K is one of the greatest models ever. It encompasses the attributes of the Submariner, one of Rolex's most popular watches, and includes some extreme specs for those of us, like me, who are easily seduced by such things. Specs are the reason I bought my first Rolex, the DSSD. I will never dive deep enough to test the SD4K's limits. Heck, I won't even test the Submariner's limits. None the less, I do get some thrill in wearing an "extreme" watch.

I suppose it was never intended to be a popular model, having been designed specifically for saturation divers. Still, I would have thought the SD4K would enjoy far more popularity than sales numbers indicate. While I have always been a GMT guy, the SD4K holds a special place in my heart as the ultimate dive watch.
