Weird.. There is a sign at my airports TSA line that specifically says to leave watches on, no need to remove.

Your watch is probably fine but holy crap this would piss me the @#*$ off.
I have NEVER had security ask about my watch, touch my watch or anything. If they did I would tell them I'm absolutely not taking it off and I'll sit through a pat down if necessary.

Agreed. This is how I manage airport security. One time, I placed my watch on top of my jacket etc in the bin. After going thru security, I forgot the watch was there, pulled the jacket out and the watch flew to the ground. Dented the watch, no crystal damage. Since then I secure the watch in a shock case in my bag before going thru security.

Pretty sure this situation could have been a) avoided and b) becoming over complicated.

I would avoid hassles and delays for myself and everyone behind me and just stick it in a safe pouch beforehand. No possible issues then.

Did anything actually happen during this ‘incident’? It started out as “threw” and has decreased in severity since! You admit to over exaggerating because you were very worried! What exactly happened which realistically could have damaged your watch? |

Someone here once shared a TSA experience about their Rolex falling from the plastic bin as it made its way through the conveyor. It ended up towards the end of the line, somehow caught in the rollers, while other bags, bins, etc. rolled over it. Now that's a nightmare!

Should be fine - next time you are the only one that should be handling your watch. Step back out and place it in a tray to go through the scanner.

Always take mine off in the queue and stick in my carry on. Saves hassle and fumbling at the last minute, esp when your bag has already entered the X-ray run up bit.
Keep meaning to buy one of those Rolex green travel pouches. |

Your watch has been roughly violated. I would challenge the inspector to a duel!

For years I flew without ever being asked to take off my watch, but on our most recent trip to Italy, I was asked to remove my watch ... I’d have been pissed if they man handled it carelessly |

I take a Casebudi when I travel. I put it in my carry-on while going through security and back on my wrist immediately afterwards. For reference, a medium fits a DSSD and SD4k well. (Not my watch, but a beauty for sure.)

No point leaving the well-being of my beloved watch to the whim of the men with authority by flaunting it. The goal at the airport security is getting through the checkpoint as quickly and smoothly as possible, not unnecessarily making my life unpleasant by making my watch a point of contention. |

I don’t fly much. I think I’ve flown like twice in my 28 year old life. But what would happen if you refuse to take off the watch? That’s not my personality, but I’d be scared of someone tossing my watch around like the OP mentioned. Or it getting lost somehow... (like some members are implying) or getting magnetized ? |

I’ve gone through metal detectors before when my belt buckle beeps and the person will say “don’t worry, it’s just your belt buckle”
Why can’t they do that with a watch? |

There's one procedure I know for sure is authorized and guaranteed to work at any airport without so much as a blink.... **Place watch in a (storage device of your choosing) and place it in a personal bag or secure personal item of your choice in advance before you even line up for security. Zero problems using this worry free internationally approved method. |

Threaten them with lawyers and blahblahblah all you want, won't work. I've seen this a few times from varying items...a drunk, a person wanting to take more luggage than authorized, and my personal experience not wanting to remove my watch, etc.... However, those that are hell bent on wearing their pretty watch through the scanner, who are more informed than host nation security on procedures....can try to take a cab across international waters to your destination as they don't have such requirements. |

I agree, a Casebudi is the best thing to use. Take it off before security, pop it in the Casebudi and bury it deep in your bag, then put it back on once through security. I have had situations where I’ve not taken my watch off and they look at it and if they insist on scanning it through the X-ray I put it in a coat pocket and then in a tray, but this was all before I just bought a couple of Casebudi cases.

Out of the US and Europe I just take my watch off and put it in a shoe. Never a problem. |
