Buy the sub now. If a new sub comes out next year worst case scenario you can sell the sub you bought and break even on it.

Happy with the 116610ln. It is my favorite watch out there. But I wouldn’t mind updates to case and movement. Unfortunately, once it is released, I’ll likely never be able to get one, so mute point. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Depends what you’d like to get from Sub line. What I personally expect is a gradual introduction of 3235. Rolex will surely start with PM in 2020 and most likely in 2021 move to SS as well. Mind you unless you get your chess game well played new SS Sub will have 2-3 years of waiting list once it is introduced. So better get the 116610 and do not hesitate for a second even. |

Rotation does not have any meaning here. Today you rotate them 2/3 days. In 6 months you’ll do so in three weeks, does it mean you will wait for a Sub with three-week power reserve to be introduced? For me it is pleasure winding the crown! Hope the same is for you!

I wouldn't hold your breath. Maybe a movement "upgrade" at some point... But the previous case design lasted for what, 50 years? 5512-14060 with only minor changes. But lots of movement changes, date addition, bracelet changes and so on. The basic design seems to evolve at a nearly evolutionary time scale. We might die waiting for a case change.

Completely agree, between the my 1680, 16610 and BLNR there is not much of a difference in regards to reliabilty of the movements imo

That would be awesome, I do think we are close. I can see that, but if you have a good relationship with your AD I don't think it'd be impossible. My AD, albeit it took a few months, was able to get me a couple of the new models from the past couple of years - patience is key, I'm not into the hype-beast\grey market scheme of things. |

If a new Sub came with a dark blue bezel like my Tudor Black Bay I would be tempted to buy one.

Have agree but many today drool over the extra power-reserve and today many think that bigger is always better.Just wonder if or when they put the 32 series movement in the subs, how many will end up on one of these winding machines.

Now is the above fun? Sure. Do I like doing that every other day? No, I much more enjoy for example putting my GMT down on Friday, and on Monday checking the atomic clock to see seconds gained or lost during the weekend. My Explorer doesn't have the power reserve that my GMT has for example, so I could never do that with my Explorer - also one of the reasons it hardly is in my rotation. Everybody has different tastes, lifestyles, and habits - that's why you have so many different type of watch specifications from date to no date, from 48 hour power reserves to 10 days, the list goes on and on. Commit to things you love, never settle. |

I would rather have 30yo tried and tested 3135 than 70h power reserve.

I'm in the market for a green sub. Waiting patiently for it from the AD. I'm also interested in a Smurf. However since the Smurf is a big purchase I'm willing to wait till a possible update in 2020 to see what's new. I imagine it won't be too difficult to get a full PM sub even with new releases. As for stainless subs buy now if you like it. Nothing to lose.

Not waiting for the new movement, if my AD tells me my Sub has arrived today, I'll be there in an hour, life is too short and too uncertain.

I think we will get the new movement and (I hope) a slimming down of the blocky lugs. Wouldn't expect to see much more than that from Rolex
(and yes I will keep dreaming of a 41-42mm Sub) |

I didn't think power reserve mattered all that much either, right up until the time I got a watch with a 70 hours power reserve. If you rotate watches that extra reserve really comes in handy. I can put my SD43 in the safe Friday night and it's still ready to go Monday morning. I love it personally.

I just bought a ceramic Sub ND a few weeks ago to tide me over until a new one is released, hopefully next year. One reason I decided not to wait-- can you imagine the wait time to receive a newly redesigned 2020 Submariner?? Who knows what the redesign will look like but I predict the demand for that watch will be off the charts high. Even the faithful among us, blessed with frequent AD incoming SS professional models, might be looking at 2021 deliveries for a new 2020 Sub.

For me, the longer power reserve would come in handy occasionally due to my rotation habits, but wouldn't be enough reason to hold off on buying now. I don't see any other significant upgrades coming that would be worth waiting for either. The case update is probably going to be very minor, like what we just saw with the GMT.

Also, I'm sure this has been discussed, but won't the blocky lugs of a 114060 or 116610 look about the same as pre-ceramic Submariners once these watches have been serviced and polished by Rolex 3-4 times over a 25 year period? I feel like this is sort of what Rolex intended when they introduced the heftier lugs. Maybe as collectors we're just impatient and weird about never polishing. That being said, I don't polish and I do hope the next-gen Sub has a more classic shape.

My best guess is it was Rolex's way of going with the big watch trend without changing the actual size of the watches. |
