Rap moguls, NBA/NFL players and various cartel members buy over the top crap like this all the time. On anyone else it just looks fake.

Why didn’t they ice the lugs? Sorry, it’s not bling bling enough.

I guess you missed my point, which your further made! I agree. There is a demand, which is why they make it.

Why would Rolex do this to a Daytona...

They prolly would have if it was on a Masterpiece bracelet.

I think that’s the White Gold 116599TBR Daytona in OP’s first post. Should have been on a Navy Blue Alligator strap if it was 100% original.

If you wore this watch to Mar-A-Lago they would assume it's real, otherwise, who knows. It's important to people in that income bracket.

Out of curiosity, do they start with a zillion holes in the dial and glue everyone in one by one?

Except for the diamond lugs I like it better than the rainbow. Easy now, I'm not saying I like either but I'm sure there's a market as small as it may be.

It only takes one person to like it. I liked diamonds in my younger days. Now something more subtle is called for.

Gem set variants of popular models are part of Rolex's DNA. Love them or hate them, it's up to you. If you respect the brand, you have to accept its' eccentricities. As said by others, Rolex's gem setting prowess is noteworthy.

That DD with pave dial is just drop dead gorgeous.

The Daytona on the other hand is a bit OTT.

Not for me either. I would never do that to a watch.

but true, it's not nearly as bad as the rainbow.

I’m not a big fan of any gems on a Rolex. Even just diamonds hour markers on a dial. But, there are a lot of people who do like these. That’s why they are made: demand.

When I see these blinged out watches, I wonder if these speciality watches represent the the real collectibles. Is the current hype about certain professional pieces blinding us from realizing which watches are truly collectible?

‘Collectible’ watches are not the same as ‘hype driven bubble priced’ watches.
