Might as well find something else to worry about because it ain’t gonna end. You know, Christmas is coming and there won’t be enough of them to go around

Since when do millions think the new BLNR is called the Batgirl? Frankly only a few people on the forums call it that.

There is no famine. The meals are just more expensive.

While I've always wanted a Submariner, I likely wouldn't have pulled the trigger as fast if it was readily available. Likely would have waited another year or so.

The SS Sports "drought" has without a doubt driven demand. At least for me

What is that quote on about? It starts off saying one thing then contradicts itself.

You can’t get back time you can get back cash. You can’t buy time either.

My father in law died recently and at the funeral they sprayed his body with his favourite aftershave he never bought because he thought it was to expensive. It’s not about wanting a hype watch it’s about enjoying something while you are alive and healthy and can enjoy it.

Paying what people call a premium to enjoy it (even though it’s not a premium as you pay more trying to develop a relationship with an AD in bundling crap you don’t want and licking ass) while you are alive and can is worth it.

I don’t particularly wish for there to be a surplus, but it would be nice to have the flippers get out of the market, and have the pretentious condescending ADs stop trying to leverage the high demand to get another few thousand out of you for jewelry you don’t want as a bundle.

Damn there is some good quotes here tonight. These watches are expensive but considering how long they last and the joy they bring, there is a lot worse things to blow your money on these days. The memories you make with them on your wrist can’t start soon enough.

Those were the days. Watch enthusiasts were good with it.

I can’t wait for the market to return to “normal”. I hope it’s sooner than later

While I was waiting for a PepsiC I got a used black ceramic GMT Master 2 and traded that for a 16710. Before that I bought a Tudor Submariner 79090 (which kindled my love for the classic 5 digit size models) which I love.

I am on the list for a BLRO and then I will start looking around for a DaytonaC, vintage DJ for myself and a new DJ for the wife. The waiting game usually suits me as it takes time to save up for each model.

I'm pretty sure this is the new 'normal' so I recommend you try and get used to things just as they are.

Personally the chase is as far more fun than the purchase...

..now what's my next chase?...I remember it's that elusive SS Daytona finally due before Christmas ..wow that's been a long chase!

Now where would the fun have been if I could have popped into any AD and walked out with one?...no thanks.

SS watches are coming in and being delivered. I think the main difference is that they are not sitting in cases.

Using a submariner as an example. You can wait weeks/months/years/etc to buy one at retail for $7500 + tax (using CA 9.5% as extreme example) = $8212.5 USD or you can pay a trusted seller $8898 and get one delivered to you overnight.

Some people have learnt the value of patience and don’t mind waiting, and others feel that their life depends on getting that hype watch now. Those who wait pay in time, those who don’t pay in cash. Which one can you get back?
I see where your going here, the sub is not much more expensive on the secondary market. This is not what I had in mind, the white dial Daytona is what I was thinking of, other models have similar percentage mark up.
The mark up of hot models, hype or whatever it's due to, is preposterous, ostentatious unsustainable and unjustifiable. I think the Daytona is overpriced at MSRP.

The hunt joy of finding something is great, but I think it would be much better at 2017 levels of scarcity.

Quite! When I took my old Sub in to my Rolex AD this summer for a service I had already decided to buy another watch from them. No, not a Rolex, in any case they didn't have any that interested me (no SS models). So I bought a Nomos Tangente manual wind from them, imo a lovely watch, and I've long admired Nomos watches. It´s a matter of taste of course, but I love the simplicity of the dial, and it´s a beautifully made watch and wears great. Keeps excellent time. At a civilized price too! Yes...luckily other brands do exist and are available to buy!
