$800k-$1M??? that's crazy.

I'd like think buying 2 or 3 DD will be enough to get you SS BLRO or Daytona?

If you’re spending millions, then get a Jacobs and Co. watch. I’d rather get a custom watch than a mass produced watch. Hopefully that lottery ticket hits one day

I also didn’t play games at the AD as they wanted me to buy a day date in order to get on a list for a SS piece. I just contacted a trusted seller here and now have all the SS that I need.

Given you are shopping at a major dealer...think London, Tourneau, WOS or Mayors.

In a major market...think Miami, NYC, or LA

What is the annual spend that these dealers expect you to have to get the respect of getting priority on new releases/SS pieces.

I know this is going to be all over the place but I’m curious what the consensus is....

They would indeed hesitate.

Two big misconceptions about high net-worth individuals is that (1) a big proportion of their net worth is in cash (usually, the exact opposite is true), and (2) their care of spending money relaxes as their net value grows (quite the opposite- they're rich because they pay attention to the details of their fiscal habits).

The only ones who break this mold are athletes and celebrities, but hey, rich vs wealthy, right?

That aside, it's irrelevant, because the AD's full of it. There might be a few ADs in the country with one customer who spends $1M+, but certainly not enough for every GMT or Daytona.

Think about how stupid that is for a second. You spend $500k to "buy" a SS piece.

WTF would any smart person do this - just spend the extra $5k at the grays and have it on your wrist within 24hrs

Its just a made up story so that the ADs can keep flipping to grays directly and making more profit than giving it to you.
I doubt these people are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars just so they can get allocated a SS Rolex. These are repeat customers who buy multiple pieces of jewelry and watches over time and have a big spend history with the dealer. As a reward, they are given preference if they want to buy hard to get pieces.

Then most ADs must have a lot of million dollar customers,as for the Daytona there are many hundreds or more for sale via the grey world wide.

I am just quoting what this particular AD told me. It was surely just a way for him to say their biggest spenders.

However, since this is an AD with around 20 stores selling multiple watch brands as well as jewelry, and this particular one is one of several locations in the Miami area, I won't be surprised if they do have some million dollar customers.

It’s funny to think about it this way and I know it’s not true for all but there probably is some truth to it.

You have to be top .1% to be casually spending 1 Million a year in watches unless you are selling those watches to others

$100K spend and not being a huge PITA or a neurotic hassler will do wonders for you getting the hawt watches.

The key is that you need to be somebody the AD WANTS to see again. Be that customer and they will keep the "good" stuff flowing to you, without you even asking for it.

It’s not that an exact science. There is no formula. You have to have a steady buying history and relationship with an AD relative to your geographic area IMO. But the personal relationship can not be underestimated.

In 2016, according to the Federal Reserve the 0.1% net worth cut off number was $42 million. Even that kind of money it would be quite irresponsible to spend about 5% of your net worth in watches/jewelry each year...

Yes you’re right...it must be another way to say lifetime spend... “million dollar clients”
