Late 40s and looking for one-
Another sub vote. Versatile and handsome and separates you from the herd with a big yellow middle finger.

Do you currently own a Rolex? Because if you don’t, and you start down this path, you’ll likely end up trading it out within a few years. I just got my sixth Rolex (didn’t own them all at the same time) and I stopped telling myself the “This is the one for life” lie about three watches ago. As we grow older we all change as do our tastes and preferences. I say pick the one you like best now. In 5, 10, 20 years you’ll always have the equity in it to trade for something else of equal value if your heart changes. In the meantime jut enjoy the one that speaks to you right now. Good luck! I would go with a DD 40mm in WG, green dial.
https://www.rolex.com/watches/day-da...8239-0033.html This is the best pick for one watch only, imo. I would not be comfortable later on with a chunk of yellow gold on the wrist, unnecessary attention. Assuming this is your only watch and you wear it everywhere. Its is exquisite and low key at the same time. A blue dial Sub in yellow gold is gonna attract a lot of attention.....I would not want that everywhere I go, especially as a senior citizen.

I picked the SD 43 50th anniversary for my late 40s. Couldn’t find another reference that fits better the occasion. Also it is the one with timeless design built to outlast more than one owner.

Being in my 60s, I would go with the DD. Consider when your older you're going to want less flash so think about going 36 DD.

Both are great watches but I would and did go with the DD. I have owned all of the PM Submariners and really like them but with somewhat limited funds I prefer the DD for the PM look. I have a Platinum and YG DD II and really enjoy them. If I was to add a third PM watch it would be the YG Submariner with the sunburst blue dial. If a fourth, a Smurf. Go try them on and you will know. Good luck.

Another vote for DD. If you are going for a touch of gold, that’s the Rolex model to go for.

I think I would have to go with the YG sub. Really there is no wrong answer to this question. Both options are great!

Have owned the DD several times and let it go. I love professionals, so YG Sub would be my pick. Which of the two styles resonates best with you, OP?

Such a tough decision and there's no wrong choice. I think Sub would have a slight edge for me, only because of the dial colors available on the YG DD.
