Recently acquired a TT Tudor Chrono on Bund strap for my petite wife who loves big watches. I am actually considering a TT Tudor Chrono on TT bracelet. Have you looked at these. Seriously awesome watches!

That is a handsome watch. I haven't really gotten into Tudor but I'm starting to consider it more.

Just wait for the next recession, there will be excess inventory then.

I recently read a post that called the Patek 5167/A a social media watch - believe it or not, they used to linger in cases, and sell below retail aftermarket not so long ago.

In many ways, the Daytona is also a social media watch. It's never been readily available at AD's to the masses with no purchase history. Instagram and other sites have created demand that is unprecedented. How many people out there want one just because they can't have it all because social media is directing their tastes and thinking? I'd argue many would not like it, or just flip it when the "hunt" ends.

It's easy to blame Rolex or your AD, but they are holding steady and the hysteria directing everyone to want a Daytona C is a moment in time. Rolex, as well as your AD, isn't in this for the short game. My $.02.

I'm not blaming Rolex or my AD(s). It's the demand.

No watch is worth stressing over. Also, no watch is worth waiting years and years for. Life's too short to deal with these silly games.

My plan isn't waiting years and years for a watch. My plan is to spend years and years enjoying discussing Rolex watches on TRF. Every once in a while, my AD will make a piece available for me to purchase so I'll have more to talk about on TRF. I'm a watch and horology fan, mate. I enjoy obsessing over watches and the process of collecting them

I know it wasn't combative! And my reply wasn't confrontational, I was kidding around (but also being partly serious) about my obsession with watches!!

I feel ya my friend. Right now I’m in a very similar boat. Working on a new incoming myself. Won’t be a Rolex due to this market. In a way though I’m kind of glad that I was pushed to spend my money elsewhere as I’m seeing a lot more cool pieces that I otherwise would have over looked.

Misery loves company But congrats on the pending incoming. Same here... I'm seriously considering a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Nageurs de Combat.

So what's your point?

Plenty of people have gotten Daytonas without spending a ton, perhaps you aren't doing it the right way.

I'm curious, what's the right way? I'm dying to know so I can be one of the plenty of people who are getting the SS Daytona C at MSRP.

And you're right, I'm getting tired of all the Daytona C incomings on this forum. So common.

There is NO supply problem. Repeat NO supply problem.

The problem is Rolex lost total control of their distribution and their ADs are selling directly to the gray market so they can rip you off as the end customer and charge you an additional $10k. LOL

THAT is the current issue. Like other posters have said you can get ANY watch you want delivered to your door within 24hrs if you can pay the premium.

Its that simple.

The stainless steel Daytona has been selling at a substantial premium for decades now. The price may go down some, but the premium has been a constant for a very long time. Unless everything goes to hell in a hand basket economically, I don’t see that changing anytime soon. But who really knows?

It's nice. I'm not a two tone fan, though, and it's only $400 under MSRP so I'd pass.

to the OP - daytona is rather small, and may not be a great choice anyway. Speedy or other chronos may be better choice. I think you are taking the right approach.

No, I’m saying you don’t have to be a whale to get a Daytona...and that all dealers don’t operate the same way. OP should keep putting his feelers out (in person, random phone calls are useless) and he just might find the dealer that will get him one.

I believe waiting lists are pure nonsense in terms of the order of the list. I also believe that lightning can strike in your favor if you cultivate a friendly relationship with an AD or two, and yes this means buying some other items from time to time.

But what worked for me is being friendly in a town where apparently others are not. I am small-time in these parts, but I got the call.

You never know, so don't give up, but also rid yourself of the obsession as I did (I had given up all hope). And then the phone rang...
