As a retired police officer, I can't begin to tell you the amount of stupid decisions a human being can make. Hopefully, he has the serial number and they can get it entered into NCIC. Some local pawn shop might touch it without box and papers? Sad the parents wasted 40k.

Its a good thing the guy didn't get hurt but he definitely sounded like a spoiled brat. “It’s like the first real gift my mom gave me” so I guess everything else given prior to that was considered trash gifts.

More evidence your wrist is the safest place to keep your watch.

Left the watch in the car?!

I was wondering the exact same thing. Why was it in the car?

And it's also pretty clear the thieves had low IQs as well. If they knew it was in the car why not just have the single thief smash the window and grab it like a normal burglary. Now they have 2 people of suspect with one clearly exposed.

...

Guess that one nighter cost him a pretty penny lol.

Many years ago a couple of my wife's coworkers (who were young adults, new grad type, working at hitech here in silicon valley), went to an upscale local bar here in Santana Row and got to spend the evening with two hot looking russian girls. Next morning they woke up with their wallets and watches etc. gone.

If it is too good to be true also applies to hot babes approaching you at a bar.

I know the question is rhetorical, but it's someone who had it given to him; didn't have to work for it; and consequently lacked appreciation for both its economic and sentimental value.

My in laws were both robbed of their Patek watches in Miami over 30 years ago. Must be somewhat of a thing in Miami...

I don't know if I'm too feel sorry for him or blame him.
Like he clearly could have been able to avoid this with a bit more prudence.

Story makes no sense. Victim said they were riding in a Lyft. Story states he was wearing his watch. I assuming they took the Lyft to his house. So When did the Tesla come in to play.

Did they take the Lyft ride to wherever his Tesla was then they drove to his house and before he gets out of his car he decides to take his watch off and leave it on center console. Not even put it somewhere out of sight.

Color me skeptical. Nobody’s that careless or stupid. Especially after he states the watch was very sentimental to him.

Story would make sense if girl drugs victim in house takes watch off and she places said watch on center console with the keys for her pimp to pick up.

“ which costed approximately $36,000.”

Did a 12 year old write this? The writing along with the victims statements are pretty juvenile!

Someone said it earlier, seems fishy, the watch is always gonna be safer on your wrist.

MORON. "Meant a lot to me so I left it in plain sight for anyone to steal. Then I took a hooker with a rear end that barely fit in the bucket seat of my Tesla upstairs to have a good time". Too bad he didn't get hurt. That's the only way he would likely ever have any recollection or regrets about it. You just can't fix stupid.

I’m not one to wear, or drive, anything that would attract attention. Especially a gold Rolex. That watch screams attention. Be humble, and keep things simple. Unfortunately there’s people that rather steal from others, than work for it. At least the victim wasn’t injured. Hopefully the watch had insurance on it. Last thing, 28 years old, and parents buy you a $40,000 watch. Come on now... And I’m sure they bought him the Tesla too. Really...
