Yeah it is definitely dark. The sun has not been out since I got it so I don’t know what it will look like under direct sunlight but in all other lighting conditions it looks either black or midnight blue.

Very true. Thanks!

Still haven’t taken it off and I just sourced a 16710 from someone here on the forum to give to my dad. Going to give it to him this weekend.

I will start by saying that I was incredibly lucky to be able to get this watch in the time I did. I have a small humble collection of watches I accumulated when I was younger. A couple of Panerai’s, an IWC, a Cuervo Y Sobrinos, and a set of Zenith pilot watches that my wife and I had engraved for our wedding in lieu of wedding rings. The Zenith pieces were the last watch purchase I made as expenses grew through marriage and starting a family. It was not until this last New Years when I was in Miami with my pregnant wife and daughter that walked by a shop and saw a Pepsi gmt. I told my wife the story of how my father had one when I was a kid and in my 20s he handed it down to me. Not knowing anything, I sent it to Rolex to be cleaned up and serviced. They changed the bezel, hands and dial as they had some significant wear. The returned watch looked brand new but no longer resembled my fathers watch. After disputing with everyone involved, I sold the watch in a fit of frustration (something I did not regret for many years). My wife concluded that I needed to buy one.

When I got back from Miami I visited my first AD and was informed of the difficulty of obtaining the piece. I hit every AD in driving distance and although I was always treated with the utmost respect by cordial SAs, the underlying message was that it would be very difficult and a long wait. I spoke with a friend who is a fairly large customer of an AD not too far from me and he offered to reach out on my behalf. The timing of everything lined up perfectly and they just happened to get one in that was offered to me. I bought it instantly.

I showed the watch to my father and his nostalgia for his own was apparent. I instantly decided to seek out and find a version of his old gmt to get him as a gift. This purchase has also reinvigorated my passion for watches and cannot wait to pick up some more things from this particular AD as I would love nothing more than to give them all of my business.

I am humbled by all of you who deserve to get this piece significantly more that I did and I hope you all get your allocation very soon.

This is a cool post. This is everything I love about this hobby and it comes from a good place. May you wear this beautiful watch in great health. We need more people like you on this forum who post uplifting, respectful and appreciative comments. I am so glad I read this tonight. I needed a little positive vibes.
