Went back and forth forever. Decided on ND sub bc of the clean symmetry. Also, I like the simplicity of not setting the date since it’s worn in a rotation of other watches.

No Date for me. I had a chance on both a month ago and went for the No Date version. I love the symmetry on the no date - and when I saw the Sub Date I could not stop staring at the date cyclops whenever I glanced at the watch (instead of checking the time). Also, I saw a “lot” of dirt/smudge around the edge of the cyclops where it connects with the crystal in a sharp angle - and my ocd could not live with it in the long run (trying to keep that area clean) :)

So yeah - no date for me.

Date because I like seeing the date.

Sub ND is my choice as its more visually symmetrical and date function is not useful for me.

aesthetically the submariner simply due to its balanced dial. i still want one on a strap for camping weekends and shred trips.

operationally i love the sub date (and have one) because i use the dates all the time at work and i don’t keep my phone on my person on the sales floor; so i always prefer a date (says the dude who is besotted with his daytona).

YMMV

No date because that is the original. Also I know I would add another piece with a date eventually.

Recently parted ways with my Submariner when my AD called offering me a Sub Date. I bought the 114060 from a TRF member. I was very worried I wouldn’t like the Sub date’s symmetry and thought the cyclops was going to be a gunk magnet. But after a few weeks I’m head over heels for it.

Can’t go wrong either way. To do it over again maybe a Sub and a Hulk would be the best of both worlds.

Sub Date for me. I've tried on the Submariner and although extremely well balanced, it was just missing something. The date give you functionality, the cyclops, and the overall "Rolex look." If balance is more important for you, then the Sub is the choice. Plus the Sub date will always be there if you change your mind.

If it is the only watch then it will be a sub date for me, otherwise - a sub.

Since no one seems to use them for diving where the date is irrelevant, its really a matter of personal taste.

Thanks for the great shot. I own a 5513 exactly like yours and have been contemplating adding a new one. I'll have to look at your photo 10 or 20 times before I decide.

Prefer the submariner for its symmetry. If both were the same price, I wouldn't mind the date complication. One and only, go for the date.

Sub-Date. I use the date complication often. To me watches without a legible date are for weekend play or collecting. That’s just my perspective. Your money needs to buy what will please you the most.

I have both. I think the six digit date, and the 5 digit sub.

No date for me. I like the clean look. Also, it’s nice when I rotate it back onto the wrist that I can just set the time and go. I have other watches with a date function when I feel the need.

Dude, the search function is your friend on this site! Pages and pages of material discussing this topic over the years. With that said, I own a Submariner 14060M and it’s my only watch.

50 years apart and I love them both. It's the best of both worlds, you won't regret picking up a 114060.

Submariner date is my preference. I love the original submariners, but I like a date function.
