I like RG and chocolate and Plat and ice blue, two modern classics.

I am a huge DD fan and currently own two. A Platinum and a YG DD II. I like the size and the look and the way they wear. If you have the funds and can only have one a Platinum model works. If you do not want to spend as much the YG works great and is a classic.

To me, it is the quintessential Rolex. Perfect size for this type of watch. It wears larger than you would think.
Great to see you posting again my friend.

And yes, a DD should be YG, no matter if it´s 36/40/41.

If buying today....It would depend on what is in the collection, before deciding on the material. But my first go to would be YG

In answer to the question posed, I'm partial to the platinum watches. I'm also a fan of the classic 36mm, but I love some of the new 40mm dials, particularly the diagonal motif and quadrant motif.
Yes, I believe 2003 and after have the updated "fat buckle". That's the one I would want.

I've been looking around a bit to pick one up and have seen 2002 models (or at least listings claiming 2002 models) with the newer buckle. I'm not sure exactly when it rolled out, but there may be some additional flexibility in your date range.

All 4 options have different peculiarities and are equally interesting.
If I must chose one I would go for white gold with olive green dial.

I don’t know why, but I’ve recently been lusting for a 4 digit yellow gold 36mm day date with a blue pie stick pan dial. Or a 5 digit 36 mm yellow gold with a blue or black stick dial. I dunno why, but that’s just such a perfect PM dress piece in my opinion.

Although some of the new DD40 options such as the Everose and chocolate dial or olive are pretty amazing.

I am shopping/looking for a 118239. The is a great example showing the size difference between the DD36 and the DD40.

I've been thinking of getting the 118239 so I can get away with wearing it at work since it's WG, and saving for an 1803 after.

Could size and dial color be the reasons?

Dd40 white gold (for flutted) and any color dial is stunning. Blue Roman or black stick would be my personal choice.
