Personally I think that’s an expensive Rolex/Daytona for it not being a PM bracelet. Would make it difficult for me to spend that. I’d start to look towards a President.

Since this is a "value prop" question the answer is simple: Daytona. Now, if it were a design question I'd have to say Daytona.

Probably a bit unfair on the RO to ask this question on The Rolex Forum.

Wow, I love that monochrome look. Very, very nice! That datedisc also visually appears to be better integrated than the white one, imo.

It is so well integrated with steel/silver/grey combo. And it is far from monochromatic in person. The sub dials just pop along with the markers and hands. Really impossible to capture this one in pics.

The 4130 is the superior movement, I'd pick a daytona every time.

The AP is no beach watch, that’s for sure.
Very astute observations.

I personally voted for the Daytona, b/c it's one of my favorite watches, period. But, man, that AP is a show stopper.

Given the role the watch will play in your collection, I would say Daytona.

I don't see the 116519 as a summer-only watch. Why would it be? Is rubber not allowed in the other seasons? Many people associate rubber with water, of course, but it's also a big part of auto racing, e.g. Daytona.
I understand and somewhat agree with what you're saying. Like I said in my first post: for me, personally a Rolex on Oysterflex has a summer vibe to it. That doesn't mean I wouldn't wear it besides beach- or poolside, but I would be hesitant to wear it with a suit to the office for instane. It's a t-shirt and shorts kinda watch... again, for me. You're absolutely right that a chrono is very much connected to car racing (and as a car nut, they go hand in hand).

Dimensions of the Daytona are officially reported as 40mm, but I've seen many people discussing the fact that is in reality much closer to 39mm. Nothing wrong with that. Putting a Daytona C next to a SubC or a GMT C it's clear that they appear a tad smaller.

Prefer the Daytona but neither of these is a ‘value proposition.’

While not a true value proposition, I will confess to being surprised as to how resilient the 519’s secondary market value has held up for used ones. A testament how how resilient the Daytona has been in attracting new high end watch buyers into the market IMO and also sort of bucking the trend of PM sports Rolexes just falling off a cliff after a few years.

Back to the OP, if you don’t already have PM, get PM. If you have a PM already for that special glow, then add the AP.

Like a pretty woman, the Daytona just has better curves. I say Daytona! But no disrespect to the other watch. It's awesome in it's own way!

AP for me, no question. I'm actually quite surprised by poll results, I've underestimated the amount of brand equity rolex still has.

I happened to have both models, to me it really is depending on how u see the watches here and how much you and paying for it, realistically speaking. The main focus here should be which variations of the Daytona that you’re putting on the table.

Both watches are good but the design and finish on the AP is just another league let’s just put it out there, but also carries a double number on price tag.

So realistically it all depends on the circumstances of your purchase.

1. 116500LN vs 26315st and u r able to source the 116500LN at RRP, 116500LN wins.

Reason: at RRP the 116500LN is the king of value proposition in chronograph game, no doubt about it.

2. 116500LN vs 26315st and u r sourcing the 116500LN overlist, 26315st wins.

Reason: the grey market price on 116500LN is simply ridiculous, it’s a great watch but definitely not “double retail” good. Simple as that!

However, when you’re putting a different kind of Daytona on the table such as the oysterflex PM Daytona, that’s a different story considering the fact that the oysterflex Daytona is selling relatively the same price on both RRP and grey, and right in the price range of the 26315st.

I’d go for the PM Daytona if I had to choose one for also a simple reason—— Gold always wins against steel by nature.
Plus I love the 116519ln so much that this is my favorite Rolex of all time

Hope this helps u, good luck hunting!IMG_4938.jpg

I happened to have both, to me I favor the 116519 more, it seems like I could never find the perfect size for the AP bracelet regardless how I try, I even went all the trouble to source a half link for my 26315st for crying out loud, but I still couldn’t find the sweet spot to compensate the wrist size change during different time of the days.
That being said, the 116519ln is not without its flaws. I was never a fan of the GMT II/Daytona style of clasp micro-adjustment mechanism and I fancy the glide-lock system on the sub/new YM much more. I’m seriously considering sourcing a clasp from those models but a OEM white gold clasp is just unnecessarily expensive and I don’t know how to find such parts unless I go straight and buy a new white gold sub, which is just CRAZY......

Overall 116519 still beats 26315st to me simply due to its wearability, both are stunning stunning watches, not to mention the 116519ln Daytona is my favorite model from Rolex of all time, but in terms of case and dial finish, AP is just from another league honestly and the difference is even more significant in real life compare to internet pictures.

Not a real fan of either but given the choice would choose the Daytona, just dont like the style of any of the RO range. And myself never buy any watch on perceived value I only buy the watches I want to own and most important wear on my wrist.

I have the 116519LN so I’m biased. I also own a few Royal Oaks but the only chronograph Royal Oak in my collection is an offshore.

The ROC is close to being a lovely watch, but two things put me off. One of the special things about a Royal Oak is the dial, to lose some of that in favour of some sub-dials is a shame and reduces the appeal for me. The other issue is the shape of the pushers. There are just too many ‘nuts’ for my taste.

If it was my only watch, or if I desperately wanted a Chrono, it would be the Daytona. If I had multiple watches and wanted something a bit more special, I’d go for a non-Chrono Royal Oak.
