Thanks folks, I will post up some pics today. On the Rollie reference, I had no idea it would generate so much controversy amongst the Brolex community. Oops, I did it again. hehe.

With that in mind, I think it's a little unfair for the OP to be critisised for using the nickname 'Rollie' when plenty of other members regularly use made up names like Hulk, Batman, Root beer, Pepsi etc with no such backlash.

If it's not acceptable to use nicknames then fair enough but pick any random thread and there's a fair chance silly nicknames will be being banded about without anyone giving it a second glance.

Just curious why 'Rollie' is so objectionable yet 'Kermit' for example is generally accepted?
I wholeheartedly agree.

Cultural appropriation, at times also phrased cultural misappropriation, is the adoption of an element or elements of one culture by members of another culture.

Padi I respect your post since they are usually in good form and relaying a message that many of us feel. However, threatening someones status on the forum for using Rollie and Brolex is a bit ridiculous. The OP's form of communicating is his choice and neither of those words are prohibited. If poking fun as he has with brolex was against forum rules then there would be a lot more theats of being banned.

In this instance I feel you should take it easy bro

My AD seems to be very rapid about getting people things when they know they aren't flippers. If the NY distribution center is indeed about to unleash a floodgate, I bet it's about to give grey market prices a large upset.

The Moderator has a valid point. The words used by the OP are slang in the Rap community for years. Phil Jackson got into hot water for calling Lebron James' friends his "Posse". I can think of many other examples of cultural appropriation as I am sure you can as well. The OP is a brand new member and he clearly got off on shaky ground with his poor sense of humor.

Are you kidding me. Rollie has been used for years here on the forum. Yes people don’t like it, but cultural appropriation... really?!?

What about “Bling” I see that all the time and that definitely came from “rap culture” from Big Tymers song called “bling bling”.

This isn’t the NBA it’s simply a Rolex forum where we discuss watches. We the collective community of Rolex wearers come from all walks of life which in and of itself should allow us to call them what we want. If Steve wants to ban the word Rollie then I would back him and follow the rules but until then this is absurd.

It's a Rolex not a Rollie. Just because others refer to it as such doesn't make it right or acceptable. There are standards.

There is nothing wrong with Brolex... Its simply shorthand for
Brothers of Rolex.

So we are the Brolex community for the love of rolex. I can see where the women of the forum could be offended since they would be exluded in the brotherhood.

WOW, I did not realize that joking around was not allowed on this forum. I must be confused because upon review of the rules of conduct, it very clearly states under rule #1 that "we love to joke around here". It says nothing about using slang terms, or nicknames for watches. I clearly understand that it is a Rolex, if anything I feel like the moderator Padi personally attacked me by threatening my presence here over a benign post. If I offended anyone with my kidding, I apologize.

Rollie is urban slang lol. Which connotates insecurities/dislike/hate some members on this forum might have.

I think you find these nicknames used by industry publications and experts. Never heard "Rollie" used as a reference in a serious conversation or by watch industry professionals, perhaps by rappers? As for "Brolex", never heard of such a word. Sounds pretty idiotic to me.

If someone not in the know heard us talking about buying Batman vs Batgirl I think it would sound pretty idiotic.

Amen

And a first time poster like the OP should properly introduce themselves to a watch community if they are to be taken seriously.

My post was obviously meant in jest, however I think you have us reversed.
I am in the world where all of us speak differently and therefore do not get offended by people using terms I do not know or like. Also throwing around cultural appropriation like its a new fad is ridiculous. How do you or any of us know what culture the OP is from.

So if the OP said his name was Lil Johnny and he was a rapper would he be allowed to use the word Rollie?

Most of us actually are pulling your leg a bit.

There are a few of us old guys who have been around since dirt was new, who do a lot of eye rolling and face palming over the new crop of enthusiasts.

With Rolex, saying certain things, or using certain terms, is like calling San Francisco "Frisco" to the locals.

We try to nudge folks back onto the proper path, but like most toddlers, some are just stubborn or simply like to stir the pot.

People that use the terms ‘Rollie’ ‘batgirl’ and ‘dog(g)’ are in the same stir the pot group.
