The JC dial is insane. It’s one of the best dials Rolex has ever done. It doesn’t look cartoonish like the BLNR blue, it’s wonderful.

I think it depends if you have another black dialed diver. If yes, I'd get the JC. If no ... well, I'd still get the JC but just by a nose. Black is classic, but as another member posted, if you're going to get a DSSD, it might as well be the JC. Good luck!

The black dial DSSD was the best bang for your buck in the Rolex line if you ask me. A few months back an excellent condition 126660 black DSSD could be had in the low 10's all day long. Now? Not so much. Prices on these black "sleepers" have risen steadily. The black dial is so much more classic IMHO. The JC is still kinda "gimmicky" for me.

I never considered the dssd until the d blue was released. Even then people weren't too fond of it calling it seaweed and such. It was love at first sight for me and I buy what I like. Got my jc1 as soon as it was released in 2014 (out of cycle release for rolex), which is also my son's birth year. Buy what you like and enjoy.

The 116660 original model is the ideal watch for me. I tried out the 126660 and I just didn't like the different proportions. Never did like the blue face. I thought I would until I saw one in person. The black is classic. I get why people like the DB though, it's really unique.

I’ve owned both recently, the JC was my go to. The JC dial looks very dark and subtle while inside, but pops in certain lights and while outside.

I bought the DSSD when it first came out in black. I loved it but when the JC version came out I really loved the dial. I traded mine for the newer version and have never looked back. I later added the SD43 so I have the best of both worlds.

The DSSD matte black dial is just about perfect. The JC is a bit more fun.

The black DSSD has quintessential Rolex diver looks, while the JC has a splash of color. As a collector, setting hype aside, I think there are strong arguments for both.

I picked up a JC last year, and I really love it.

I would go black dial DSSD over an SD43 for a black diver. If you have a collection full of black dial Rolex watches, the JC is a must.

Surprising answer perhaps...

At 150 meters, without artificial light, the two dials look the same.

But on the surface, playing on the beach or at poolside, the JC-DSSD is more eye catching.

I had the Black and found the matt dial very dull, by comparison the JC Deep Blue dial is absolutely stunning and really pops so that would always be my choice every time. They don’t seem to get the love they deserve compared to other sports models, perhaps when they are discontinued people will appreciate what a special watch the JC DSSD is.

This is the correct answer. SD43 is a sweet watch if you are looking for a black dial dive watch. If you go Deep Sea, definitely the JC.

I've had both. Currently a 126660 black. If buying at retail, I'd go JC because I also have the SD43. However, I cannot justify the price hike for half a dial color change and green writing if buying grey or preowned. Black is easily had way under retail.

It depends on how much you are looking to spend. Like others mentioned you can probably pick up the black dial under retail.

I say go with JC or SD43

I have the 126660 black because that's what was offered to me. Great watch that keeps incredible time. If the blue was available I would have taken that.

I have the Black from when it was first released. Had the opportunity to buy the JC version when that fist came out and passed on it. Personally found the dial and specifically the green writing to be off-putting.

That said it is the more popular version so maybe I'm missing something. Either way to is a totally over engineered beast and you will love it
