I have had both in the last 2 years, but the DJ41 was the winner for me at that time

I have the 114060, but if would have started with the 5 digits, no brainer. Modern day movement , but still a design closer to the original.

I own a Sub and a DJ2 in blue with a fluted bezel. Both iconic. Would not sell either.

It’s way more jewelry like due to polished center links and fluted bezel.

I originally wanted a DJ 41 blue dial / fluted bezel / sticks, but the size didn’t convinced me. However, the watch is mesmerizing to look at. Love it.

I agree with this. And pre-pandemic I might have chosen the DJ41 over the Sub, mainly because I was in a routine of being more formal at work and play. Suit and tie every day at the office, and lots of going out to restaurants and bars on the weekends.

But post-pandemic I've been way more informal, eating more take out, dressing more casual and just being much more relaxed at work and at home. Consequently wearing my sub waaaaay more. So perhaps I've seen the light. So right now I would say Sub > DJ. But who knows how I'll feel in the future.

100%.
Those COVID-19 days are Sub compatible. My lifestyle is also informal so it kind of dictated the watch category I wanted as my first Rolex, a diver.

I have the DJ 41mm black dial. Thought about trading it for the ND Sub. But maybe I just buy the ND Sub so I get best of both worlds.

Datejust 41 vs Submariner ND

The sub is a tool watch. It’s sturdy and feels so. The quality is still all there. The DJ41 is an entirely different beast. Especially fluted jubilee.

They are a great two watch Rolex collection.

Though personally I prefer the DJ36 as it’s more dressy and appropriately sized (in a classic) sense

Buy both

Both great watches. DJ is slightly more dressy if that is a thing and the Sub is more sporty.

The sub is a tool watch dressed up, The DJ is a dress watch
Hence why the sub will maintain a certain ruggedness to its design and profile.

I’m not a fan of the sub and prefer the YM40 as a dive style in my collection it executes the design better. Try it as a one watch to cover sporty casual, you might like it

I’m lucky to have old and new Subs plus a DJ41

There are very few similarities between all three.

Except that my DJ41 does look different with it’s smooth bezel.

I don’t think the Subs look any ‘sportier’ than the DJ’s.

If I had to pick one, I guess the sub, but would miss the flare and the best dial I have ever seen with the blue! Two GREAT watches, in my opinion the 2 best in the entire Rolex lineup. To answer your question the sub feels slightly more premium to me.

If you could only have two watches, these are the exact two to have.

Two very different watches. One is a premium sports watch which does everything well, the other is a premium classic watch which does everything well. Which do you prefer?

Currently own a new 2021 DJ41 TT with Rose Gold, Jubilee, Fluted bezel, etc.... and a 114060 Sub Ceramic (no date) 40mm.

Both can be worn with anything. I can easily wear flip flops, jeans, and an old hoodie with the DJ41, and can easily wear dressier attire with the Sub. So both are extremely versatile.

As for quality and build, both are great. The DJ41 is flashier with the RG and Fluted bezel. The Sub is more under the radar with the brushed finish. Although it still does pop in its own way.

Both DJ and Sub are Rolex icons. You will not go wrong with either.

The Sea Dweller 43 50th Anniversary feels more premium than both.

I've also owned that as well as the other two, it also didn't feel more premium to me, just felt so uncomfortable with the awfully designed protruding case back it was unwearable!

You could just pick a bluesy and have the best of both worlds.

I looked at several Subs when I was searching for my ‘first’ Rolex. A couple bluesy TT and a couple black/black SS. For me, the Sub just didn't talk to me like the DJ41, Ice Coffee Dial ( black mit Diamond) Jubilee. The DJ just felt right also.

I had just sold my 12 yr old Chrono44 and it was a wonderful watch, but I was constantly hitting things with it. Im not even aware when I wear my DJ.

I realize this is another old thread, but having both is nice. I wouldn’t say one is any more well made than the other, but the Sub feels more substantive. It’s a diver with 1000 feet of water resistance, and you can feel it.

Both a nice, but it depends on your lifestyle and environment you’d wear them. I personally like the DJ more, but if you’re all casual and sporty the Sub would be the better choice.

Datejust 41 vs Submariner ND

I own both a 124060 and 126300. I would say the Submariner feels much more robust. The oyster bracelets are not the same. The DJs is much thinner. Both have a place in my collection. I would say you need both.

I have both. For me the dj41 is more versatile. I wear it 90% of the time. At work, skiing, playing golf or tennis, social occasions and just about anywhere else. Also, the dj gets more comments and the jubilee bracelet looks good as new 5 years later. I will say that years ago, I wore the bluesy everywhere and enjoyed it's sporty look. For me it might be a stage of life thing. We go to a lot of weddings and more formal events where the dj fits right in. side notes - I find myself admiring my dj frequently and don't do much with the bluesy...and my son would like to have my dj

dj - 41, white sticks dial, fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet
bluesy - standard setup
