I agree wholeheartedly. My absolute favorite watch was/is the Y serial 14060M
Bought my first one for $3,600 years ago before the madness.

When Dr Tom was still posting Porsche’s on TRF!!! Lol
I bought and sold that watch thrice and while I have it again in my collection, had I just kept it the first time, I’d be a little wealthier lol

Lesson learned

Sold my Sub date a while back & regretted it every single day since....

Hopefully my AD will sort me out a new one post September - regardless if Rolex update it or not, but waiting until after Septembers new release date just incase they do.

Would be cool to have one of the first batch new releases....missed that boat with the SD43, vowed not to be so slow on the uptake next time....

Well that's exactly what I did - I sold it on for a stunner of a watch. So not all bad.

i have to say though, i sold a hulk, batman, 36mm datejust and date sub and don't regret selling any except the black sub.
i will want to replace that with a no date though.
seems like we all go through our phases of different tastes

Sold my Sub date which was my first Rolex to fund a new purchase. I have regretted it ever since. Not because I miss the sub that much but more because it was my first. I wish I was on TRF at the time, I could've used some of the advice I've seen given:

Don't trade, save and add!

Sold every brand in the collection but Rolex/tudor. Only regret moving the 006 speedy. The pang of regret is so deep I'll never part with crown.

I’ve been fortunate enough that I haven’t yet needed to sell any of my Rolex watches.
I have been yearning for a white 5711 for the past 5 years and was close to getting one from an AD before they were discontinued. So I recently laid out all my watches and set aside 3-4 stainless Rolex to trade for a 5711 and I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.
My plan for when I get much older is to travel somewhere (Japan, UK, etc) and take a watch then sell it in the local currency and travel as long as I can on the proceeds.

Design wise. That's a beautiful TT time piece. Buy and keep what you like.

I agree, OP. I try not to sell gear, including watches.

Seems most end up regretting it, having trouble finding a replacement or end up paying more the second time around...

I feel you! I sold my white skydweller and really regret it!!!
Also turned down Explorer II from AD a number of times and wish I didn’t. It’s not my favorite watch but it’s really starting to grow on me!

One of the reasons I regret selling it is because it was my first Rolex. Plus the white dial on it is like no other. Makes me feel like I just got out of the shower when I put it on . I have no desire to expand my collection at this point, except I just may snag the Explorer II polar in the right circumstances.

BUT, the reason I sold it was to get this

I had my one and only Rolex for years, a 36 mm TT DJ, and sold it in January because the champagne dial was getting harder to read. I hadn't realized how insane the market had become until it was too late. I now have a wish list, and will slowly acquire several new references. I wish I hadn't sold it, though.

Many years ago before I received my first Rolex SD, a guy told me if you ever get a Rolex, no matter what happens only sell it if you have to pay your mortgage or the taxman is on the doorstep. And even then make sure you’ve exhausted all other means.

Fortunately I’ve never been in either situation, but good advice to be sure.

I had the same reason to sell my 116710ln. It was the right choice, but there are times when I wish I still had the LN

I almost sold my submariner 3 years ago - took it to a used dealer but it was declined without offer - I subsequently had it overhauled by RSC and now I like it better - and I’m glad I kept it after all.

Definitely regret selling my G serial polar too a couple years ago. Got profit for it but would definitely have gotten much more nowadays considering the premium, but definitely would have preferred to keep if I could go back.

If I cannot afford my next watch then I'm not buying it. I have no intention of selling any of my current watches to fund the purchase of another, I like them too much.

I thought you were going to say not to sell your Rolex because if we have a second COVID wave and multiple economy/currency crises, a Rolex would be better than cash!

Sold a BLNR on oyster only to regret it. Luckily, I was able to buy a BLNR on jubilee and I am happier (though both are awesome!), but it was about a year and a half of angst:(

Bought a kermit at retail in 04 and sold it the same year for no gain. Bought it for the hype, collectiblity and never liked it. Lesson: buy only what you like.

Then promptly went back to AD and bought a gmt coke that i always lusted after since i was a kid. Still have it 16yrs on papers and all.
