I'm glad you got it sorted OP but I would also be concerned about your sellers attention to detail. I know you trust him and he is old school but something like this shouldn't happen. Maybe a service with Rolex will give you peace of mind?

If it were me I’d return it ASAP. It can’t be good to have the bezel installed upside down. How does the insert even fit the bezel that way. No telling what else the jeweler did to it.

As far as I can tell, ALL the 16610 inserts had flat fours; certainly up til they lost their lug holes. Even the first LVs had flat fours. But, the "boldness" of the font did vary, either by design or wear of the tooling (no ide of cause) and I do not see any clear "guide" for this as we have for the four-digit references (i.e. "fat font" "kissing four", "long five" etc.) I'd be curious to see some sort of chart/guide if we have one, but I've come up empty on my own. PS watch photos in posters and catalogues may not be accurate representations. Anyone remember the LV teaser with lug holes? |

I'm usually the optimist, but I imagine you paid a considerable sum. Also sounds like you're very (rightly so), excited to own the reference itself (it's beautiful). However, if I found out my builder had put my roof on backwards, I wouldn't just want the roof fixed, I'd want the electrics, plumbing, everything in and out checked over. I can't understand how your seller wouldn't have spotted this when he was buying it, as he will surely have been in there with a loupe to try and get the price down as much as possible.
Don't feel like you need to hypothesise with stories of a rookie working on this after a heavy night - this isn't on the person who did it, it's on your seller for not spotting it, so what else hasn't he spotted. |

I'd probably send that thing off for service immediately. If the previous owner could wear it for that long with the bezel upside, who else knows they did to that watch. As someone else mentioned, if the jeweler can install that backwards, i'd be very concerned about the internals.

I cant understand or even knew that it could be installed upside down. Is it possible that it's not a factory bezel....

I don’t understand how this got past the dealer. I imagine they’re checking for authenticity whenever a preowned watch comes their way. This would be a big concern for me. How many other things are slipping through the cracks.

I still can't get over the previous owner wore the Sub with an upside down bezel for years and never noticed!

I would not let your guy come within a 1000 yards of any of my watches let alone checking out a movement for originality. Believe me, he is totally clueless

How it even possible? The insert would have to snap into the wrong side, and the wrong side would have to snap down onto the case.
