Ugh, another one from the "sneaker game"

No one cares. Not the same thing. I doubt you could find many people worldwide who haven't heard of Rolex. I'm 34 and I'm probably on the outside edge of someone who has heard of a yeezy, and definitely out of the range that cares about a yeezy.

Wait, what?

At the release in 2013 they weren't easily available at the start. No idea what you are talking about.

I have said this from jump on this forum, Rolex watches are mass produced fashion baubles. Nobody, including me, needs a watch that I can take 4000 feet down in the ocean, but I own an SD. I purchased it at retail because it is a cool looking watch that should last me a very long time. I did not buy it as an investment, just like I do not buy sneakers as an investment. The fatal flaw that Rolex has made is that they have not allowed their AD network to charge market price for pieces, this has created an unwieldy GM arm that now accounts for a piece of the sale. This has alienated a lot of folks that have moved on to other brands out of frustration thus eroding the fan base of long term customers. Once the brand falls out of fashion, it will be a hard fall. I have seen this countless times with fashion icons. May not happen overnight but fashion is ever evolving. Breitling is a great example of this, used to be a hot brand with little discount and great value retention, now you can find them at TJ Maxx with a 50% discount.

Yeezys are a shoe that Kanye west designed. They were pretty hyped up and very hard to get.

The shoe comparison does have some validity. That said I think there are some yeezys that are still considered collectors items. They same may hold true for certain models of Rolex.

Rolex has been desired for way longer (decades) than yeezys or supreme. I don't think that is going to change anytime soon.

At the end of the day we don't really need much more beyond food, water and shelter. These are just fun side things :)

If it isn't fun anymore -- stop.

Though I see the points here, Rolex will not end up at TJ Maxx. They have a longer marketing history in years than practically the oldest on this forum.

The fact of the matter is, to people the brand still means success and “you made it.” Our grandparents and even some great grandparents had a Rolex and it was their pinnacle watch. That is engrained in all of us and it will take a long time for that to change.

They made their mark. I agree prices will come down since all is cyclical. Stocks, crypto hype, whatever.

There’s a longer history with emotional attachment to the brand for sure. We’re just on the upswing of a crazy cycle right now. I truly believe the people speculating won’t be able to unload their inventory fast enough once this hot streak cools.

Don’t think Yezzys(not sure I even spelled right) compares to ROLEX.
One thing I did get from the thread is the PS5. I didn’t even know there was one out.

I’ve been buying luxury watches for 25 years and zero of those years were spent speculating or attempting to make money on a purchase. They were all emotionally driven because I wanted that item. Omega, Breitling, Panerai, JLC & Nardin all have multiple slots in the winder and have been enjoyed.

I also think it’s funny that people play dumb to a brand that they are well aware of. Saying it doesn’t compare is pretty silly as well. You’re talking about a shoe that retails for 200 and sells for 2000 it’s exactly the right analogy. Y’all are just getting getting caught up in semantics. I’m not a fan boy I’m just a realist and I’m sorry if that rubs you the wrong way. Whenever there’s someone speaking out against popular opinion you’re automatically labeled a troll. It’s pretty damn easy instead of opening your ears.

Prices have leveled off for yeezys. Most can be bought now after release for 100-150 more per pair. That is no comparisons to the mark up on rolex gray.

if youre comparing rolex to sneakers then its better compared to jordans. jordan 1s still have crazy hype and are timeless and classics for almost 40 years and a good amount of them are still expensive

the adidas/yeezy wave barely lasted 5 years because it was all based on exclusivity

Very pointless comment to be honest.... I guess milgauss is very similar to a yatchmaster II or a GMT

In all fairness, the Yeezy topic probably means Rolex transitions smoothly to the next gen of consumers as a brand. Probably net positive overall.
