If this was a Rolex AD they may not sell a current model for more than MSRP; discontinued models are another story. I recently purchased a NOS 116710 LN, still in it’s shipping pack, stickers and all - it was pristine. It was only three years only, but regardless of age, NOS is NEW

It really depends on how difficult it is to find another watch somewhere else and if you are going to wear it or leave it as a safe queen.

If you can live with it, ask for a price adjustment, otherwise I’d send it back as it is not NOS or at lest the damage was not disclosed on sale.

Being more than annoyed with the alleged 'NOS', I personally would return it as the ding would keep bothering me, buying a NEW watch should bring you joy not disappointment.

Do update us on what the dealer says and your conclusion.

If that model no longer available new and you want it dearly ask for a partial credit and keep it, that can be fixed by rsc or one of the great watchmen that are part of this comunity

In my opinion, a NOS example should be brand new with no dings. I would ask for a refund, or a price adjustment if you decide to keep it.

Is that a 114270 ? Damage looks tiny and can be acceptable if you paid a reasonable amount. Its unlikely to come up with pre 2010 pieces regularly. Most of these have flaws in some way.

I’m with the consensus, I would NOT pay the NOS premium for a watch with dings like that.

For those saying it should not matter because only more dings will come. Sure, but that only makes sense at preowned pricing, not NOS pricing.

Normally a ding would be no big deal, but right now NOS is a major premium people are pay with the intention as you the NOS watch as an investment vehicle that sits in safe, 100% perfect, new, NOS.
That ding takes that watch from 100% to 98%-ish; not a huge deal except it ain't NOS no more.

Depends on the deal you got. Not great advertising but all my watches have got dings like that on so if it’s something you’re going to wear I wouldn’t worry too much. If you’ve overpaid on the basis of the condition maybe talk about the price with them, if you’ve bought it in line with market and want to wear it- just crack on

As a ding is part of the history of the watch in my lifetime buying NOS means perfect and crisp not dinged.
I understand that these things happen but to be expecting something perfect and getting this then the tummy knots would be going.
Dings will be my story not second hand.

NOS watches have often been subjected to a lot of handling and 'trying-on' over time, and also get passed often from one dealer to the next until they find a home.

For these reasons above I think it should assumed there may be evidence of some wear on the watch.

In your case here, looking at the effected area and weighing that against the unlikely chance you will come across another NOS if this reference has been discontinued, then I'd just strap it on and enjoy.

FWIW I just bought a four year old NOS Fluted Silver Dial DJ2. Had been after one for a while and know its unlikely I will find another. When it arrived, I discovered it was fitted with an error cyclops. (2016 being the model year this was happening across a wide range of Rolex references). There was also evidence of some very small micro hairline scratches to the fluted bezel, but you really needed a magnifier to see them properly, likely caused by periodic wiping of the watch with a polishing cloth.

Was I a little disappointed by this when I discovered it? Yeah, sure. Did it make me want to send it back? No.

I kept the watch and actually its at RSC now under the last few months of its warranty period having a correct cyclops fitted.

In your case, a little ding like that will be easily removed come service time.

I'd keep your watch. A few days on the wrist and you won't even be bothered by it.

If it were a current new reference being bought from an AD they'd in all probability just send it to RSC to polish it out and apologise for the inconvenience.
