A few years ago I had a 5508 bezel go missing with USPS where it was said it was delivered but it was never delivered (and I have property cameras that cover my mailbox) so I made a bunch of calls, talked to very helpful people but nothing for two weeks.

Ironically (not) when the normal carrier got back from an extended vacation did the package show up in my mailbox with no label or notice.

Fantastic news!!! Now I'm just fascinated about how/why this kind of thing can happened.

Great news. I suspect some shenanigans at the local Fed Ex.

There is currently a police report in which they will investigate the manager as well as, the FedEx security officer. Should have more info tomorrow.

Great news in the end, but...

Maybe you put an insurance value on the label and that caught the eye of the potential thief at FedEx? If it is truly a theft attempt it seems like a sophisticated operation with multiple individuals involved in multiple States that went through a process of redirecting the package while feeding you false information.

Fortunately it sounds like the appropriate representatives at FedEx were involved and did their due diligence.

I live in NJ. Do you mind telling us what city in NJ it went to?

I'm really happy that the package has turned up and will (hopefully) be in the family's hands soon.. What an ordeal!!

Questions will still need to answered on FedEx's part though. I'm glad you were able to stay on top of the situation.

Q: So does it come back to you, or will it be forwarded on to the owner, or held by authorities for any reason?

Great news indeed for you and the owner. Look forward to hearing more about retrieval and an explanation for how this occurred by FedEx, so we can all remain confident when shipping with them as a carrier.

Great news! Glad that you were able to recover it Phillip.

Earlier this month I ordered something from an online retailer. I had 2 items ordered but for some reason the retailer decide to ship them out separate, one went on UPS the other FedEx. The UPS package came on time without issue. The FedEx never showed up and showed it was delivered to NY, I live in Chicago.

Here is the crazy thing... FedEx some how recreated a label with a new address to send this item to NYC, I contacted both retailer and FedEx, and was going no where. Figure it was a lost cause at this point. Turn out this package was sent to my brother in NYC. I have no idea how FedEx got my brother’s address or why the address label was recreated. My brother has never ordered an item from this retailer either. And we definitely don’t share the same name either... still a mystery today.

I’m glad it’s been found and hopefully returned safely. I also hope if criminal activity occurred, the people involved are prosecuted.

Thanks to John the head of security, we were able to find it this morning. He thought it was a lost cause and believes the winter storm kept the watch from being delivered to the false address.

Thank God the heirloom is back and arriving to me tomorrow.

Let us know when you have it in your hands. Then we can all breathe again...

How are you going to deliver it next time? Fedex again, or a different approach?

Happy that as been found!
The question is, was a "wrong" address or a "false" address (meaning on purpose...)

I always had bad experience with Fedex, to sloppy. Just last week I found a package in the middle of an intersection on a country road upstate, it was a Fedex LLBean parcel that fell from the truck wile turning. I pick it up and give to the first Fedex guy I meet, about 50 mile away...

So glad to hear this outcome! It reminds me of a shipping nightmare story from the late '80s or early '90s (not a watch) and it was pre Internet and cell phones. I'd ordered a relatively high priced musical instrument ($2k range) from a shop across the country and they had shipped it to me. I received a small box with some cheap drinking glasses. The label from my musical equipment had come off of the original box and attached to the other box. It was a nightmare and took a few months of phone calls, photographs, snail mail evidence sharing, to ultimately prove that my $2k instrument had gone missing with no label and I'd received this other package.

What helped my cause is the other package was a sentimental item and once the intended recipient of that item became aware of the situation, he pitched in and helped.

Eventually it was all settled, but it was really awkward and difficult.

So glad for both you and the owner of the family heirloom.

I hope the manager did just misapply a label meant for a different package in the office. Mistakes happen.

But if that NJ addy is his friend or a family member, well at least the weather and your persistence avoided a theft.

Last year I sent my 50 yr old 5513 to Rolliworks via FedEx. It fell into a "black hole" for about a week at which time I went to the main FedEx office in my city, Canton, OH. The manager called me the next day. They found the box sitting at the end of a conveyer belt with two other packages. You cannot imagine how my heart was skipping beats looking at FedEx Tracking and seeing nothing for days.

So glad this got found. I have shipped my GMT Master a few times, and it bring my fathers watch originally whom is now past, I get so worried each time. I can imagine and fully understand the stress and heart ache whoever's watch this is went through since you mentioned it’s an heirloom during this time.

Small world as well. Having formerly lived in Phoenix I think I know the security gentleman you dealt with if he’s still there in that position.

So happy for you, and the owner. I have not had good experiences with Fedex lately. However their tracking is far better than USPS. Which, unfortunately, means you can then see how screwed up they are.

The fedex manager that put the second label on, did he have a strong New Jersey accent? Like the kids from that show that used to just gym-tan-laundry all day?

Great that you had a Xmas miracle. I once sent some US tax returns from Montreal to CT. They were just left abandoned on someone’s porch somewhere in town and I was extremely distraught. I use fedex when I can
