+1 Very cool watch, but the AD route is the way to go. Since this friend seems to be no stranger to purchasing jewelry, it should be no problem for him to "establish a relationship" with an AD to get this watch in a timely fashion.

Do you ever advise non-'watch geek' friends?
I’d give my 2 cents that bright teal/blue might not be the most practical choice for daily wear and that I wouldn’t personally pay 18k for a 6k watch.
Ultimately it’s his call. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

That's more than 2 cents, that's 12k of good advice.

Love the responses here guys; thoughtful, considerate, and constructive - many thanks.
So it turns out he does have a 'good relationship' at a nearby AD, where he went to ask about the turquoise OP 41...which they didn't have, of course...but they did just so happen to have a 41mm Bluesy, which he has now gotten at list and is delighted to have 'saved' money. Rolexes are great and somewhat unique among consumer products is that they always have a practical use (you're gonna know the time, and maybe the date too), and hold their value so if you make a mistake in a fit of emotion, you can get out of it and into something that fits you better pretty painlessly (unless you bought a Cellini or a diamond encrusted YMII, then I can't help you). |

I had a colleague that knew I was in to watches. He had a classic (not quite vintage) Submariner he was looking to buy as an “investment”. He had a particular watch he was looking to buy and wanted to know what to look for to be sure he wasn’t being taken by the watch store.
I had told him before about how watches weren’t typically a good investment, so I think he just wanted an excuse to buy a Submariner. I gave him the run down on what to look at to be sure the watch was in good condition and operating properly (as much as you can check without opening the case back). Most I have ever talked to think I am crazy for buying anything but an Apple watch. So with that being said have learned don't talk about Religion, Politics or Watches.
