Fran Sawyer , the lady with the Patek is local to me, she has been in our local paper and on local facebook groups. She has a son who does need a lot of medical help, a few weeks ago she was in an article where she has in the last 5 years designed and now patented a particular medical stoma dressing, it is being marketed by Medicina and as it is now patented it will be used in nhs hospitals. She has also done a huge amount of money raising for charity as well.

Second one nearly bought a tear to my eye... Lady comes in with a passed down Patek perpetual calendar to fund her son's operation. Thinks she's going to get £100... Pawnbroker offers her 85k!!!! Was so emotional and really pleased she is able to go ahead with her son's operation.

Next week is about a white dial Daytona that was found in a car boot sale for £25!!

Not getting political, but doesn't the UK gov't pay for those operations?

As far as the NHS goes, most surgeries if not life threatening take months to get as they have long waiting lists. The other thing is all the good doctors are in the US making bags of cash compared to their UK counterparts, so you will see most surgeries for athletes and those that are more complicated are done in the States.

Not quite sure about that. You reminded me of the time, two years ago, when my dad was on holiday in the States. He had a medical problem and had to go to a big, well known hospital there. He was there for 6 hours, had a CT scan, saw the doctor for a few minutes and was told he would be fine, and should consult his doctor when back in the U.K. He was then presented with a bill for 11,000 USD which he had to pay before he was allowed out of the hospital.
On returning to the U.K he took his CT scan to show his doctor. The doctor said it was such a terrible scan that he would have to do another one, which they did that day, all for free.

Most sports players just go private in the U.K btw, very few would fly out to the States for surgery or treatment.

If the NHS in the UK is free, why on earth have I been paying a tax contribution towards it for the last 40 years?

It only free to people who don't pay tax!

Your one experience, while noted, does not account for the facts that the majority of the best doctors and most complicated procedures are done in the US.

I lived in the UK for 19 years and in the States for 21, I experienced good and bad medical experiences in both so use the facts instead of my own experiences for the views I expressed.
