Good to see the DSSD in the wild. Stellar watch, but addressable market is limited due to the sheer size of the bad boy.

Interesting comment of secret shoppers.

Sorry for potentially derailing, but does any AD honestly say that they put all desired models in the windows? That would be a hilariously dumb idea, I mean people would camp in from of the store for weeks for the return they could make on a Daytona.
Hell, even the three grand or whatever for flipping a Sub is a month’s income for a lot of people.

I think the DSSD was the last steel sport model I saw in the case as well but this was back at the beginning of 2020.

They come up from time to time in the UK but they don’t hang around for longer than a few days here.

First SS professional model I’ve seen in the showcase in 4 years

No one can beat my local AD on lack of variety!

I was in Ho Chi Minh City in January 2020. I was surprised to see several SS watches, mostly Datejusts but there was the DSD on display. Was thinking of getting it but I wasn't entirely a fan.

I don't have a photo, but I count 6 watches in yours. My AD only had 4 watches on display the last time I was there, about 3 weeks ago.

I used to call that the deep case dweller. A year ago in Vegas these would sit for a week or so at a time. Steel YM2 also. Nowadays though it's certainly a rare sight to see anything that isn't yellow gold or bejeweled. Maybe a good sign.

For those who don't believe in Rolex's "secret shoppers".

Check Page 9 from this recent court document against Chicago AD.

Ok your AD wins the worst inventory award!

My proplem is that mine is the only AD on my island so no other Rolex AD options except taking a plane or a cruise out!

It might make sense. I don't know if Rolex cares how retailers sell their products. After all, they are paid for upfront. But too many shenanigans could potentially damage the brand image. It should be possible to obtain a SS sports model with a little effort and diligence. If the average buyers chances are essentially zero that might encourage some buyers to give up and move to another brand. I doubt everyone is plugged into the whole aftermarket seller thing. I sure wasn't when I started looking for a sub. Now I know that there are many legitimate aftermarket sources for Rolex but even figuring that out took some time. I bet a lot of buyers don't want to go that route; not just for the mark up (which would make no sense to most naïve shoppers) but wanting a new a legitimate product.

In theory this would be accurate but....most people find a way to get that watch weather it’s grey or AD or friend advising them on how to go about it and almost never switch to a different brand

It cannot be a surprise that Rolex use secret shoppers, most brands do to ensure customers like us get treated fairly and that brand principles are upheld.
The likes of walmart and even McDonalds even do it!

Little update. My cousin in Miami sent me this pic (I blacked out his caption to me). That’s the 2nd available I was able to find within the week.

Surprised to see that in the case. I’m thinking one could flip it for a small profit instantly. If one were into that..:)

Not really.
Black deepsea isn’t a very desirable piece.

What is the point of an undercover secret shopper if the business being tested knows that they are a secret shopper?

They know they’re going to be tested at some point. But they don’t know who and when. Just like any other business doesn’t known who and when

All SS pieces are extremely desirable at the moment. Heck all Rolex watches are extremely desirable. We haven’t seen any SS watches in any cases including AK, milgauss, EXP, YM, or even OP, DJ, DD, TT, and PM all traditionally less desirable than DSSD in recent times and they are all gone. So to see one or two in a case is surprising and interesting...

After visiting 5 or 6 ADs with no men's watches I decided the emperor has no clothes and moved on. Eventually discovered Omega and Breguet and in hindsight am glad those ADs had no mens watches to sell.

Later on a friend of mine who I didn't realize was into watches shared that he had a connection if I wanted to buy a Daytona retail but I passed on it as I'm just no longer interested in them at all.
