I have both the Lange 1815 Chrono and an UJ Alfred. Both are very smooth winders with a reassuring high quality "clicking" of the ratchet. The Alfred is super smooth low torque / resistance in the beginning but requires a bit more torque when approaching fully wound. The 1815 is more constant at a medium level of torque / resistance. My impression is that the Alfred requires a few more turns of the crown to wind from zero to fully wound than the 1815 (which has a lower 18000 beat rate). Some of the difference could be coloured by the fact that the 1815's crown is a bit larger and easier to manipulate (the Alfred's crown is also slightly recessed into the case). Both offer an extremely high quality winding experience compared to e.g. my Speedy and JLC ultra-thin manual wind.

Huge congrats on your UJ! They are definitely on my short list of 'targets' for a new piece. Please feel free to let us know your thoughts, perhaps as they evolve, regarding the watch....and of course pics with the new straps are always welcome too.

In short, I love the watch, congrats again and thanks for posting...made my morning.
I would agree with McMartiny below. My Lange 1 is very consistently smooth throughout, requiring the same level of torque regardless of how close you approach full wind. My UJ has a slight increase in resistance as you approach full wind; which is kind of how it should be so you know when to stop winding. If the Lange 1 didn't have a PR I wouldn't trust myself to not over-wind it.

For me, I just prefer the Lange's slightly more smooth winding. That's not to say the UJ is bad. It is miles better than say an Omega, JLC or even Moser. I'd also say it's more of a pleasure to wind than my Breguet as well.

Changed the strap...maybe a little controversial for some. Haha

This model has a degree of playfulness in it, much like the Journe Bleu. Therefore I think it will look good in many different colors of strap.

Where did you get that strap? It looks great on that UJS.

Congrats on the pickup and welcome to the club! Beautiful watch, I do think the blue strap works well with it. Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy my Alfred.

I've even been considering adding a 1140L. The case size and proportions are just perfect, and dials to die for.

Many thanks, definitely glad to finally join the club!

I love the grenage dials of the Alfred as well. The AD had a limited edition salmon grenage 1140 available as well; I was super torn on the decision between that and the champagne.

I will say, the hand polished and applied hour markers are a definite standout. Amazing craftsmanship.

Wow...salmon grenage, you say? Sounds great...any additional thoughts on that, or perhaps pics? I was thinking that would be a cool option, as UJS seem pretty flexible on some spec changes.

It's a limited run of 20 pieces. If you're interested my AD had one as of two weeks ago; I assume it's still there. I can DM you the AD info if you want.
