This watch has both fascinated and mystified me. I passed it up on a couple of occasions when it was in production, but eventually found a very gently used one for a reasonable price. Once I owned it for a month I really wondered why I hesitated. I think it’s perfect as is.

Lugs are more tapered and shorter by about 2mm lug-to-lug.

Wears very, very well. It's just a tad on the heavy side.

Red text? I dont really care of it. It is almost unnoticeable cause it is not bright red, it is dark faded red. All you can see on pictures is just a post-filters or ajusted saturation.
Then it's not a sea-dweller lmao, a mere generic sub.

This reference has been catching my attention. The old reference is also interesting. Im thinking the 16600 would be ideal due to thickness. I'll have to try one on.

Not quite,

Perfect requires half an ounce of GOLD

Bought mine in feb 2017, just before the Baselworld in which they we're going to reveal the anniversary model but ofcourse nobody knew how it was going to look. So I had some doubt, do I buy the 116600 which I could buy with a 20% discount in Amsterdam airport AD (yeah those where the good old days) or wait for the release and risk not being able to get any of the two. Can you believe they had 3 SD4k's in the display when I bought mine?
After the release of the SD43 I have to admit I personally really liked the red text, but immidietly knew I made the right choice. The 43mm does not suit my build and I really liked the vintage 40mm and the no-cyclops look of the 116600. Tried the SD43 once at a grey dealer and must admit it wears smaller than I thought, that was a surprise. But anyway, I am still happy with my choice, the 116600 has the classic design of the original SD, it is 40mm, it has no cyclops, has a matte dial, it has normal sized lugs (compared to the 6 digit Submariners) and it has the advantages of the 6 digit Rolex models with the modern Oyster bracelet and diver clasp.
It's been on my wrist non stop for 4 years now and except fot some scratches is as good as the day I got it.

That’s what I settled on, the 16600. The thickness is not nearly as noticeable on the 5 digit SeaDweller as it is on the 116600. The older stamped metal bracelets are also much lighter and make the watch wear more comfortable. I have a 6.75 inch wrist.

IF it had a red line, and didn't resemble a hockey puck, or Only If only they made a more proportionate SD, w/ slightly increased size to separate it from the Sub...
