You must have the biggest wrists on the whole Forum.
To an AD of many brands, I usually just go in wearing whatever I am wearing that day (always includes pants). In a brand boutique, if you are wearing their brand then you are already a loyalist; if you are wearing another brand, they can convert you to their brand. That said, if you go in to an AD or boutique you don't already have a relationship with, asking for one of the hottest references on the planet, it won't matter what you are wearing on your wrist.

Best answer is above. Wearing a Rolex eliminates the sales person from wondering if you can afford a Rolex. That would be a point for you.

Can go either way. - if they take you for a flipper, + if you create the impression of a collector passionate about Rolex brand

There's an old saying "Never judge a book by its cover". Retailers should know better than anyone else that every person who enters the store is a potential customer.
To treat people any differently isn't a.way to a successful business imho |

The problem is Rolex Ads have become complacent and it really shows in the attitude of some of the sales people.....they dont need to make any effort because the can sell stock in their sleep....a lot of them definitely exploit the fact that they have the upper hand in this game

As for me it depends - the main Rolex boutique in Paris is run by Dubail group, and they are REALLY snobbish. Most of the time I will wear one of my SS Pateks. |

I don't think it matters. The impression you make will be based on your demeanor and how you come across when talking about watches.
Once upon a time, I walked into an Omega boutique. I hadn't planned to, but found myself in the Beverly Center in Los Angeles killing some time...and what better place to do that than a watch shop? As it happened, I was wearing a Breitling Navitimer, the Cosmonaute, a limited edition piece based on the watch Breitling made for Mercury astronaut Scott Carpenter, with a twenty four hour dial. The sales associate, after introducing himself, complimented me on the watch, "that's a beautiful timepiece" and that led to us chatting about watches. The manager joined into our conversation and eventually I brought up a watch Omega had put out a couple of years earlier, a recreation of a tank watch worn by President Kennedy at his inauguration. I remembered reading an article about that piece. The manager smiled, said, "Wait a minute" and went to the stock room for a few minutes, returning with that very watch. They'd made fewer than three hundred and the LA boutique had one, just not on display. It blew me away and I bought it then and there. So, a good watch can certainly be a conversation starter. But, it needn't be the brand you're in the market for. I've found the key is simply to have a good conversation with a sales associate and hopefully develop a rapport. I recently visited a Rolex boutique in LA, in the Century City mall, and had a good talk with a sales associate there. Just being friendly and enthusiastic about the product, demonstrating genuine interest and willingness to learn, is what I've found to be most important. I've also found it's beneficial to be honest about why you're there, acknowledging that the sales associate's time is valuable. If I'm just browsing for fun, I'll say so up front. If I'm seriously in the market for something, I'll ask directly about it. |

Wear a Rolex when you visit your AD, at a push any other brand they carry, but I would personally stick to Rolex on that day.

I will be wearing whatever is in rotation that day. There is a good chance it will be a Rolex. If it is a Rolex, it could be one I have bought from them or one I bought grey when I couldn't get it from them or any other AD. I have no idea what impression this would make but it would be noticed. Part of visiting my AD is the two wat "what watch are you wearing" conversation. Head of department, Rolex buyer, SAs and SAs from other departments wear a variety of watches. always from a premier brand, always mechanical so far as I have seen.

I don't play a game with any AD. Only the very first meeting and impression count.
I have and regularly go to a few AD's for different brands. I choose, if possible, to go to not just an AD but the relvant brand's boutque. I frequent Rolex boutiques (2 of them regularly) Patek Philippe boutique, AP Boutique, JLC Boutique, IWC Boutique and some others. I get treated exactly the same in all of them --- And that is very well. I usually get offersd a drink (Coffee or wine or a soft drink). The manager usually comes over to see what i am enquiring about with the sales assistant. I am well known in all of the above boutiques and have bought more than once in each of them. I reckon the staff must have a secret "Code or sign" so thet the assistants know if its a sensible customer and they should go the extra mile or a time waster. I hope I fall into the first of those 2 categories. I have never been a follower of fashion or smart dresser ... i seem to live in jeans and polo shirts.so I am not smart. My sleeve usually covers my watch choice of the day so until I sit, with jacket off they have no idea whats on my wrist and that is how it should be. You really can not tell one person from another when it comes to what disposable funds they have for a watch. Just go to the AD of your choice (I always prefer Boutiques) and get a raport going with them. It will pay of with BIG benefits. Not only do hard to get watches become available slowly but trips to factories get thrown in and invites to launches etc. This hobby can become a lot of fun. I do admit, i am in the UK which is nit far from Switzerland, so trips to the factories are simple if they are day trips or 2 / 3 day trips. From the US etc its a bit harder for the companies to arrange and costs a whole lot more. (Flights to geneva from here can be as low as $US35 each way. Some brands prefer to oiffer their private jet (Patek for example).

Well my manservant is my watch winder he keeps my watches wound for me while he carries me around as I hate these machine winder things.Plus while he carries me around it saves on expensive shoe leather, as my shoes are bespoke handmade and almost cost Rolex money a pair. But must admit when visiting my AD my manservant normally kisses the ADs feet and flashes the watches on both wrists if I am in the market for a watch.

Yes you always wear it because it makes natural conversation... for instance you’ve been wearing the watch you bought from them!
I’ve also had the SA pick up the watch I was wearing and look at it while I tried on new one. Creates another conversation. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Why not? It shows that you can afford one and if the rep is a real watch person you can talk about what you like about the watch etc.
The AD might make you an offer to buy it, if you discuss what you don’t like about it. |

Can't think of any disadvantage of wearing one than without, so why not.
If anything, would be good back up as a conversation starter if you run out of things to talk about. |

At an AD without a pre-existing relationship, it definitely helps form the initial impression that you’re a potential buyer and not a tire-kicker. It’s unlikely to help you get any closer to a hot model though.
It doesn’t do much at an AD you already have a relationship with. |

100%.
Even if you bought grey...believe you'll be positioned in a better light and not labeled as a tire kicker by the AD. |

I walk into a dealer I’m wearing my Sky-Dweller, my AP or my VC. They’ll know what’s up.
