This is right advice. Even greys told me to keep mine although they want it badly. For a PM DD, are you kidding? Before the craziness, every AD had 4 of the PM DD.

I would. I can't tell anyone else what they would or should do.
Material value beats hype value every time for me. But we're all different. |

this is what you call falling for the hype, just because every AD had day dates available doesn't make the daytona a better watch. a PM rolex can't and shouldn't be compared to a steel one, regardless of model

YES.
I have both and really think that would be a good trade. The 40mm DD is worth more than the White DaytonaC, IMHO. This is a great chance to trade up.

What he said. Or I’d sell the Daytona and buy a WG ALS Lange 1 Moonphase

I just wonder how many of the people here that quickly said trade it in, actually have a SS Daytona? Lastly, I happen to like the way a SS Daytona looks over any DD. |

also to your point about how many here have the SS daytona, a counter argument would be have you worn a PM rolex? |

never said msrp makes it a better watch lol, just said this is about being able to trade up to a watch that costs 3x more but without actually paying the difference. whether or not it's more special is up to the owner, but most can agree that a gold rolex is more special than a steel one. i think the daytona is at most a $20k watch, past that you should expect to get more for your money, like what AP offers in their steel range

I can’t see a way to answer your question. They’re such completely different watches in every way. And value, of course, isn’t just in dollars. If your heart isn’t set on having a 116500 and you’re good with a hefty and beautiful PM piece for your daily wearer (if that’s what it will be), then it sounds like a really good way to enter the world of the PM. The 18K DD is a gorgeous, substantial piece, no question. I’ve worn one, though I don’t own one.

I have not worn a precious metal Rolex—is it truly that higher of a level? I do personally believe, even in my mid-thirties, that the gold day date is absolutely stunning with the deconstructed Roman numerals. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I would never trade a DD for a SS anything, Daytona or otherwise. Mostly because I love DD’s (I have 2). If you love your Daytona, don’t be trading simply because of the perceived value difference. You would have to love the DD just as much, otherwise you’ll be sorry you let the Daytona go.

Do you need a chrono? Or do you need to know the day and date?
I don’t need a chrono and I can figure the day and date pretty easily. I have a 116500 and would not trade it for a DD40 for a few reasons: The DD40 has no micro adjustment and I’m finding there are few watches I enjoy without the micro adjust. Stainless steel is more durable than YG and I tend to be hard on my watches. I don’t like to be flashy and given they are both worth $30k+, I would not feel comfortable wearing a gold DD in some situations, but I wouldn’t be nervous wearing a stainless Daytona |

Yes from a value prop. But make yourself happy, not the internet.
Me, all in on a white gold DD40. |

i would say it is, the weight makes it feel much more substantial and makes steel watches feel kinda flimsy after. also nothing beats the glow of yellow gold. i think the daytona is a great watch and given the opportunity i would definitely own one, but at the current market price i just don't see the value in it. at that price if i'm getting a steel watch it has to be an AP

It's your watch, do whatever make you happy.
I have both and love both of them very much, they are the iconic of the brand. To me SS Daytona and D-D are the one to keep for a long long time.

If you like it more, I get the logic but like the look for the Daytona so much more.

Historically it will always be the “President’ of the Rolex line up. It’s history trumps the recent blip in time market value of the Daytona. The SS Daytona is valued by Rolex as a $14k watch. There is no way getting beyond what it’s creator values it within their catalogue of watches. The DD was top dog when you couldn’t give a Daytona away. It will be that decades from now.
