BLNR

You and everyone else who wants these.
They’ve offered you somewhere to start eg DJ or CHNR….take their advice and start there

124060, 9 months, no purchase history. (Went to school with the SA back in the day. That probably helped.)

Around 6 weeks for the new 36mm Explorer. No purchase history, just went in and said I’d like one! AD suggested somewhere between 6-12 months and seemed as surprised as I was when the call to view came through. As others have said, it can happen.

Odds of obtaining a BLNR or Sub as your first purchase are slightly better, but still very low.

In any case, good luck!
This! As another poster mentioned, the CHNR might have very well gotten you (or at least made your chances MUCH better) Sub and/or BLNR sooner rather than later. The other two...different story.

I lucked out on a blnr
Hand officially ‘got on a list’
But was indecisive and wanting something

And randomly got a call it was available
And that I had to literally decide on the spot before it gets offered to someone else
So I jammed over and bought!

I thought about taking the CHNR but to drop 15k on something I don’t like and then end up selling it just recoup the money doesn’t interest me. Plus I’m sure the SA wouldn’t be happy to see that I sold it.

If anyone wants a TT CHNR, I’ll be more then happy to forward the AD info as a referral, I know that will go along way.

I’ve cycled through a dozen ADs over 9 months for a new Pepsi and I am nowhere. So who knows.

I don't see it that way. I've walked into an AD and asked to buy what they sell, am ready to pay cash at a moment's notice, am not a flipper and they know from looking at me that I am a watch guy and likely a repeat customer. If they can only sell for retail, what do they care if a watch can be flipped private party next day? They can't do it without risking their relationship with Rolex. I only want a 126660 James Cameron and nothing else at the moment. They know this and know it's a slam dunk sale as soon as they call me. In what other business is a sale so easy?

Please take no offence but you have described literally dozens of people who are in the same boat as you.. but they already have a relationship with the AD... as an example I bought a CHNR recently and was told there was about 50 people that would be willing to buy that watch.. JC would be more in demand as well...

Then they offered you a DJ. Buy it and keep it, then over time move to one of your chosen models.

Do not buy and sell, but start at DJ and go from there.

If OP does not event want to buy the CHNR, do you think he will buy the DJ?
This is a good case study: whether buying history is essential to get the popular models. Disputed by some but often seen as the effective route to achieve the objective.

About a year ago, with no buying history, I inquired with my local Rolex dealer over email about the Oyster Perpetual, 34mm, white dial. He didn’t have that particular watch in stock, but said he could special order it for me.

So I went to the shop, tried on a couple Datejusts and put down half the total of the OP34 for a deposit. He explained to me that this is Rolex we’re dealing with here, so there’s no telling how long the order will take. It ended up taking just about a month, to his surprise.

Fast forward to this past April, I email my AD about the new 36mm Explorer and how it’s the perfect follow-up to my white OP. He said he added me to the client file and will call me when one is available for special order, but to be PATIENT.

Almost 3 months now, still no call from my AD…

I know I'm not going to the top of any list, since I have no history with any AD here. But plenty of people on the list way ahead of me will either buy grey, buy something else or have lost interest by the time their number comes up. So the AD goes to the next name on the list. I'm not holding my breath and since I don't have to have another watch, I don't feel the need to go grey. No problem waiting it out until things get back to normal.

I put interest in at 2 of my local ads for my first watch about a month ago. Just talked to one yesterday about an Airking or a Explorer II in either dial. She said they have only gotten 1 Polar white Explorer II so far since release. That I should continue to check in over the next few months for the Airking Im taking that means I might just get one lol.

It’s hard to spend that type of money and not really want the item. If it was spend $3500 on a Tudor or something like that then maybe. But 10-15k on something that doesn’t excite me is hard.

It will be interesting if I get a call on a SS sport model in what I hope is a timely manor(3-4 months). It’s been about two now, so maybe my time is coming. Either way I’ll wait for what she is able to get, she’s been polite and didn’t dismiss me like the others did which are much closer to me. But again that’s also with no history with them and in a wealthy populated area.

So true. Spend history, loyalty, customer service, common courtesy, the good old days….

I have been waiting for 5 months for my YG Day/Date from my AD. I'm told it could be anywhere form now to 4 more months. Frustrated but I'm not paying these unsustainable inflated prices for used rolexes....

What about checking in with your local AD's? How often should you follow up with them after waiting for the piece you want? Is there a thing of being too pushy?

I first started once a week, after about week three she said she would keep my info close by. Since then she called me on two pieces I didn’t want, so now I call about every 10 days just to say hey. I’m just hoping by doing that she does t forget about me.

I was at my local AD today. Have a modest spend history but always had some good convos with them. They told me minimum 6 month wait time for anything. Regular re stocks on the DJ41 but can’t be picky about the configuration. OP Turquoise dial no chance because wait list is longer than my arm but will get a call if any other dial colors come in and I can decide from there. My main goal was the Explorer II with black dial but again a 6 month wait. Fingers crossed these timelines are less than predicted but I left feeling sorry for anyone who is just starting out with their collection and hoping to add a Rolex because it’s so tough to get one out the door. So glad that I have a solid Rolex lineup already and managed to bear this bubble before it grew out of control!!

I have a history with my AD but am on year 4 waiting on a white gold sub.

I’ve been waiting a few months, don’t think I could be patient enough to wait four years. After I get whatever is offered to me out of the ones I want, maybe I’ll be able to be more patient. Not having one period really sucks.

I have been very fortunate with all of my purchases regarding wait times.

At the same time I have been on a wait list for a 116613LB for over 2 years when I was promised the next one they have in stock.

My current and most fruitful relationship was forged from a chance visit whilst visiting a city for a night away for my birthday, even if the wife did moan "you always have to seek out the rolex AD where ever in the world we go"

Cheers

I know I’ll wait awhile for the Daytona Panda, but if I get BLNR or BLRO it will help hold me off. Still might have to try to Tudor New Chrono or Omega Speedmaster Racing if it takes to long lol

It is a piece of jewelry. Life is to short to be frustrated.

Many other great watch brands out there, expand your view
