Both of them are good to have in the collection. You should keep your 15400ST and add more obtainable TT Daytona from your AD.

I would keep the AP and sell the VC for the Daytona.

This. You need to work out what works for you. That’s all that matters.

I would never trade an AP RO for a Daytona. Don't chase the hype.

lots of things to consider...
having owned both a royal oak and daytona at the same time, i can say for me that the daytona is a more comfortable daily wearer. rolex in general make watches that are great dailies. even without all the hand fishing of an AP RO bracelet, their oyster (or jubilee) are extremely comfortable. the AP is beautiful, and if you care more about craftsman ship, and value - i think for the market price being the same, this is your winner. it is a slightly "edgier" watch imo. my style is relatively conservative so a rolex chrono is more posh to me than a plain RO would be... but if the AP suits your style then keep it. both should retain or grow in value but the daytona has a better track record imo... you're also paying a higher premium for it, which makes the RO seem like a relative bargain... of course no OP wants to hear this , but i'd keep what you have and save up to buy the new one you want. i have so many more regrets selling a watch than i did buying... |

AP 15400 for Daytona
I'd rather have your RO or the VC Chrono. White Daytona is nice but it's not a stunning knockout like an AP or Vacheron.
There are viewing angles and lighting conditions where it just doesn't look that good. That's something you'll never experience with VC. Also it is a much smaller watch compared to the AP and VC. I don't think it is actually 40 mm. Wears like 38 mm IMO.

Tough choice for me. I would not spend over MSRP for any watch, but I think the Royal oak is one of the most unattractive watches, and the Daytona is one of the best looking. I would sell the Royal oak and get a good AD to get the Daytona. Did you buy the AP at MSRP? If so, that might change my opinion a bit.

I’d keep. I’d trade for a PM Daytona but not the SS in this specific case.

Why do you want the Daytona? Serious question. Try to separate the hype and just because the value of your AP allows you to do so, stop and think. Wait 6 months and if the feeling is still there go for it. The Daytona is an overhyped chrono, quite illegible, and excessively shiny. There are far more important chronos, speedy, el primero, navitimer, etc. watches with real heritage.

You got the AP, VC, Rolex thing going right now for a solid trio. If you really want a chronograph, what about sticking with AP?
As for the 15400, I agree that the AP is the better watch, but I just love the Daytona. I'd probably do that trade, even though it's a bit of a downgrade. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk |

It’s not even a fair comparison. The 15400 is a much better piece in every way!

A watch that cant fulfill its function is a pretty paperweight. I have owned 2 and use my watches as part of my job and used the chrono many times per day. If you look at the subdials around the 9,10,11,12 and 19,20,21 area there is not enough hash marks to be read accurately. I recall timing something, looking down and could not get an accurate reading of the elapsed time. Off it went to my wife who appreciates jewelry and on went my Speedmaster a proper tool watch that can do it’s job as intended. A watch that can’t properly fulfill its function is just a pretty object. I need a watch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The upshot to the Daytona is it’s looks from a distance though I felt a tad too shiny. That said, it’s water resistance, fantastic proportions, and versatility are its strengths. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

how about going for an AP RO chrono? best of both worlds, if u are into the chrono dial look.
AP RO chrono imo is a more handsome watch than an RO. the subdials fill up the dial beautifully. a much more exclusive piece than a SS daytona too. |

Don’t get me wrong, Daytona is stunning and an absolute classic. If you desire the Daytona, I won’t hate the decision to swap.
Personally though, I would never make such a trade. That AP is a clear winner here IMO. |

I slightly prefer my 15500 to my 116500, but would not part with either one of them. I would keep the RO.

The Royal Oak quite literally started the entire luxury sports watch segment. The Daytona is great, but this is no contest IMO.

I’ve kind of got both (15500 silver dial). No I would not swap at all.
Daytona at retail is excellent value at all day long, but it’s not on equal terms with a RO. |
