Never noticed. The DD is the way to go. The other has a Michael Kors hue to it. (Not meant to insult. Just too goldie for gold)

I made the exact same thread with both my YG watches.

My DD40 is much more yellow than my YG 116618LB sub.

My DD40 is a 2018 dated and my 116618LB is a 2020 dated. Your GMT would be older than 2017 right (sorry just read your GMT is 2016) So maybe the lighter color change was done very recently like end of 2018 onwards?

Heres the thread below.

The new sub 126618, is that still the old yellow color? Or has that yellow changed too?

These photos make it appear like Lange Honeygold instead of the Classic YG that I love.

I disliked this change so much I couldn’t justify the purchase. Sad day.
Rolex may well have changed the mix, but even if they haven't, you can't expect 18kt gold that's been exposed to all kinds of chemicals and indeed the air we breath for at least 5 years to have the same hue as 18kt gold that hasn't

I wasn't aware of this. Going forward I'll definitely be more aware of now trying to notice the differences between various pieces. That said, I've always liked the look of Lange's "honey gold" pieces and I find the lighter tones of the new DD more appealing.

That’s so weird, I feel like my 21 year old Daytona is closer in color to your DD.

This is true. High quality gold jewelry in India is commonly made with 22kt gold (91.6% pure gold), which has a richer, orangy tone. It's also very soft and more susceptible to damage. Compare this to 18kt gold, which is 75% pure gold and commonly used in high end US & European jewelry.

Of course 14kt gold is even more durable, but it's only 58.3% pure gold (14 parts out of 24).

You canceled your order by looking at pictures and reading rumors?

The photo sources could have all sorts of different exposure or color manipulation. The rumors are just that.

I kinda though the same thing. Rolex YG is pretty sweet.

I went to the store and saw this watch in person, hence my GMT sitting next to the Day-Date. My SA took these photos for me. I didn't read anything prior to this and its not a rumor. I have never taken my GMT into salt water, hot tubs, or any other environment(so forgive me for thinking that my 18k watch shouldn't change colors over five years). They changed the gold and I am not pleased with the change.

Just FYI, the gold will still oxidize especially with long term exposure to skin oils and sweat. Heck, even the air if too humid will cause it as well. Take a look at some of the safe queen watches that don’t have proper humidity regulation inside. There was a thread a month or so ago about a six digit DD that was NOS, but had severe patina compared to one worn on the wrist every day, which was noticeably lighter in color.

Looks like a change from light yellow 2N to yellow 3N, with less silver and more copper.

Change in formula or not the new yellow gold looks pretty awesome. And yes gold can definitely change in color over time. Just depends. I’ve seen some older gold model turn black and blue in color. That intense of a change probably won’t happen with a very modern piece though

If anything, the DD in your picture looks oxidized and less vibrant than the GMT. Obviously we know that is not the case, but just throwing out to all those saying maybe your GMT just changed, that idea doesn't really add up because environmental factors would likely have made your GMT less yellow, not more.

I personally do like the color of the DD more, but who cares what I think? It is unfortunate for those who genuinely like a really yellow gold that we live in a world with so much fake gold floating around. I can see why a company like Rolex would want a look that is distinct from cheap costume jewelry (agree with Chewie on the Michael Kors comparison) and I'm guessing that motivated any change in their recipe.

I notice my YMii Gold has sometimes depending on the light, sunlight more of a copperish yellow rosey tones compared to the deep yellow GMT gold

My DD40 however looks very yellow

The trouble with the older cheddar cheese look is that is what costume and plated jewelry color tends towards. Only way to get lighter straw colored gold is with real gold.

Could it be that the 18k Yg alloy slightly differs by model? In all of these threads, it’s two different models.

None the less, this is very interesting. Great dialogue

This is a great point yeah. I have a number of 22kt gold items that I wear next to 18k items and you can IMMEDIATELY tell a difference in tone. It is quite a striking contrast next to each other.
