Think in their shoes. Would you want someone constantly bothering you with the same questions as everyone else?

Your AD will forget about you when you check in so infrequently

Myself I go every morning around 7am ( doors open at 10am) to make sure I am first in line. (To call and make reservations the night before I beleive is a little too much)
Then I browse the store to see if a shipment has come in.

If nothing nre in the displays I go and sit in the coffeebar drinking coffe untile they close eyeing all others entering the store, taking an occational stroll glancing over the shoulders making sure nothing I have an interest in appears from the safe.

By closing time I finsih my last cup and get escorted out by security making sure I am the last non staff to leave the store.
And next day I do it all again so I am sure the staff remeber me.....or not

Depending on what Rolex you have interest in, you more than likely won't be getting a call without buying other watches or jewelry.

This is all good practice but unless you have followed them home and stood outside their house, I think you will be forgotten. Pro tip: make sure to stay on the sidewalk.

Spoke to an AD about this

I was on vacation recently, here in the U.S., and decided to stop in to the local dealer where I was vacationing. They had no stock, but we talked for a long while. I told him I was on the wait list back home, and he said I should be more aggressive.

? What?

He suggested visiting the AD often, maybe monthly, to show your face. No calls or e-mails. His reasoning was you need to show just how much you want it, and at some point maybe they’d even get tired of your visits and get you the watch.

He said if someone came into his shop, got on the list, and he never saw that customer again, he’d probably never call them. He wanted to reward the hard core Rolex customers. I respected his attitude.

“Out of sight is out of mind.” Staying in touch is important. It’s the relationship that really gets you the watch these days not your bank account. Be sincere and be real. Otherwise, go grey.

I agree with this and it's the approach I am taking. I am not making a special trip, but I am tacking on additional time to a trip already in the same general area. That way I can stop in and thankfully, my AD has stacks of all the different brand catalogs and magazines out for everyone to take and they also have an amazing pre-owned area. So there is always a "reason" to stop in and talk watches and pick up some of these reading materials. I am thinking once every 4 weeks or so. Since I was in 2 weeks ago, I am due for another visit soon!

Just go in once a month, buy some jewelry you have no use for and after a few years they might throw you one of those super rare black steel subs...

Better to laugh then to whine like so many do in there.

Theres no stock
AD sells out the back to Grey
Flippers do not LOVE watches like I do. AD should ban them
Flipping a watch for profit is whoring yourself out and should be a crime as it drives the marketprices up
Waitlists are unfair!
Whales buy all the stock without having to wait. Thats unfair
Ad is unfair! (To me at least)
Marketprices are unfair! Speculators make the watch I want too expensive as soon as it costs more then MSRP
Buying Grey is fueling the crazyness. You HAVE to STOP that and wait like the rest of us
Rolex makes too few SS watches
AD hoards whatches
Grey hoard watches
Etc etc etc page up and down until whomever Padi is chimes in...
Well thats because the true love of watches is dead and now they are only objects in terms of $$$ŁŁ€€...

If you are sourcing a hot watch - man keep it simple...every week you look like a nut case. Most hot watches are taking a year or more so in my opinion touch base every 2-3 months. With my AD I chime in every 3 months for my watches on order. I don't want to annoy them as they actually have control on who gets the watch. Remember there are no "lists" those are fantasy. It's up to the AD

Showing up in person is actually a great idea. Talk to them, shake a hand an establish a relationship .

I politely asked my AD how we shall remain in contact and keep in touch. Been a great relationship ever since!

From my experience, European retailers receive about 6 116500s a year, and hot watches come in every 2/3 months.

So you are more than valid in asking every 2-3 months as this is the cycle, yet as I have mentioned I truly recommend asking them how to stay in touch and develop a relationship.

Seems like life on the Rolex side is still good...

Patek AD tells me one watch I have been waiting for since 2019 will be 5+ years, the other one looking better. Not joking. Based on my experience this is not just a polite way to tell me to f... off. When I asked for my first new Patek there in 2015 they said it will be 2-3 years and it did arrive in 2018.

Obviously I am not following up every few months or more often. More like every 9-12 months or so.

If the only way it seems possible to buy a Rolex is to kiss ass in a retail store then they can keep it and in doing so must damage the reputation of the brand.
If you're that desperate go grey and enjoy the non Rolex AD experience.
If they don’t want my money I’ll keep it thanks.

My wisdom says if we all do this then the situation might change but in the mean time I pucker up to nobody.
Powers stronger than mere punters have made this situation so I won’t feed them to continue.
It’s nothing more than asking for an abusive relationship tantamount to retail blackmail.
It’s only a watch.

Possibly for some. Not for everyone.

It seems that people have forgotten how to just interact with people, read them, take cues and find a level which feels right.

You can't standardise behaviour. It isn't in a book, it isn't on a forum, there isn't a YouTube video revealing all. It can be difficult and it's the same for everyone. Buying things helps. If they don't sell anything else you want, you have selected the wrong AD for your needs.

If I was the SA/AD, I'd prefer to have someone who is considerate, respectful, buys stuff from my store (not just that one watch and then vanished, I want a returning/repeat buying customer), and not bombarding me with emails/texts/calls.

When I requested our pieces around six weeks ago,,,
Most of the time was spent talking about our SAs car and very little about the current “ state of play”,,,,

The delivery driver has my cell. He texts me fifteen minutes prior to arrival at AD. This gives me enough time to get flowers, chocolates, and their favorite bottle of wine.
