Current GMT looks and feels right on to me. 16710 is a bit diminutive IMHO. I still enjoy wearing the 5 digit but prefer the 6 digit. Many factors influence each person’s opinion, especially ownership of the subject watches.

Could not possibly agree more.

I respect all the dinosaurs who still like these 20 year old out of style, lower grade technology/material/design models, but you've got to be KIDDING me. Five digit models aren't in the same league as the six digits models.

There are hundreds of improvements in style and substance, but the bezels and clasps alone are light years apart and difference-makers. The advancements over the old designs leave them completely laughable

--- a stamped metal clasp and a tin can painted bezel insert? Really?
Buy a Sinn and save yourself $25,000.

I wonder if these guys also prefer to drive Model T's or Ford Pintos?

I’m still not sure if you’re leaning one way or the other Brian!

I would take a Ferrari F40 or LaFerrari over a F8. The F8 has all the latest technology but doesn't always make it better. I bet some would say the same for other cars and here, their watch.

100s of improvements in design and substance? Hardly. I agree that a 5 digit is like a Ford pinto but by the same analogy a 6 digit is like a Ford pinto with a new set of mags and an improved hatchback latch that cost 4x the original purchase price.

I totally agree.
The 6 digit is a nice modernized update, but the 16710 will always be the classic!
To say otherwise is foolish.

It's weird being the same age as old people.

It’s the larger font on the modern GMT with the super case. After owning two and now a Sub41, I also find the Sub with wider lugs and bracelet flows better from case to bracelet. One of the most noticeable changes is the Sub’s font is smaller less overpowering on the bezel. It just looks cleaner to my eyes. I will bet that the GMT will get its lugs shaved down like the Sub41 in its future which will help. I really like that the new Sub41 looks bigger and more substantial on the wrist which a dive watch should be over it’s GMT counterpart. I like that definitive design lines between the two models. Rolex is the master in playing the illusion game with their designs.

IMHO I also think the numbers are too large on all the ceramic gmts.

I think the bezels on the five digits and earlier are too small. Also don't care much for the vaunted faded look. Reminds me of a beer can sitting by the side of a road for ten years. I couldn't imagine a GMT without the easy link being on my wrist as I bounce around from home in the Pacific Northwest to overnights in some very hot and humid places. That said I think the AL bezel's colors are vastly superior to the the ceramics. Except for the BLNR.

Different strokes. . .

Oh yeah, I also don't like the way the bezel on the five digit and earlier overhang the case. Not pleasing to my eyes at all. The bezel is too big for the case to me.
