I went there Thursday. They were very nice and wined and dined me and I checked out the black dial Lange 1 moon phase and a few other pieces. I liked it. A little small even for my small wrist but it was beautiful. It just wasn’t 49K beautiful. I couldn’t justify spending 15 K over what I can get it for brand new now from any number of grey dealers. If I absolutely loved it like I do my 5205R or my AP vampire I could see over paying for it to get a shot at the Odysseus of which I have not actually seen in person. But still IMHO Lange asked too much for some of its timepieces. They do have a Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar RG with a grey dial i’m considering trading my 5205R at my Rolex YG DD black dial with baguettes for but i will have to give that serious thought. I put a picture of me wearing it and several of the other pieces I looked at and considered. I still haven’t 100% made up my mind but I’m pretty close.

As stated earlier, the fact that Richemont is so overt about forcing a specific bundled purchase (which are now flooding the secondary market for big discounts) just to have the "privilege" of waiting 2 years for an odysseus has, unfortunately, completely turned me off to the brand. The 5524 is a great casual piece and looks beautiful on the wrist.

Looks perfect on your wrist. Did they have the Lange 1 MP in platinum?

No they did not. Just a few watches.

I think you would get more out of the 5524g. It dresses up as well as it dresses down.

I’m very pleased with it.

Don’t all the top brands bundle nowadays? I found the ALS experience, while more direct/transactional, transparent. Unlike PP/AP/Rolex where I have no idea when or if I’ll ever get a piece ALS told me one year for the Odysseus and I got it in 11 months.

Technically, Patek doesn't bundle. If it's a certain level of a complication, they have to decide you're worthy of the watch after looking at your existing collection. Your sales rep is supposed to go to bat for you with the brand. But what happens is the ADs ask for bundling. Do this enough, they'll get their license pulled. *ahem*

AP... technically they don't bundle either... But let's be real if you've only been buying the brand for like their hyped pieces, they want you to get into the millinery, 11:59... diamond studded... etc ...

Lange is straight up asking people to bundle right now. Buy a "core collection piece" and we'll get you an odysseus. Truth is the goal post will move further and further away. Nobody who is buying only one watch at this current time is guaranteed an odysseus. But if you really love the brand, buy one after another at retail price, they'll more likely give it to you than AP would a steel royal oak, than patek would a nautilus.

Rolex... well it's really the ADs doing it.

Essentially, everyone wants to do it the way Patek is doing it with their master complication watches or AP is doing it with their concept watches: Build a collection of our watches and we'll LET you buy some of these other ones.

But consumers are to blame too. Too many people out looking for "investments" so the brands gotta do something to weed those people out. Why not use $$$ as a barrier.

I would stay with the 5524. I am not a fan of the Odysseus and think it just looks off and wears poorly due to lug structure. And I am a big Lange fan. If you have the chance to keep the 5524 and add the Lange one MP, that’s what I would do. Lange one is such a great watch.
