The Daytona used to sit in stores unsold for years. No one loved the early ExII with orange 24 hand. Now?

I disagree with the majority of responses on this one.
Firstly, there’s nothing wrong with the DJ2 proportions. The ‘proportion’ word gets regurgitated ad-nausium whenever the DJ2 is mentioned. They are what they are, a bolder and more modern and sporty interpretation of the decades old DJ36. The DJ41, which has replaced the DJ2 has reversed this trend and basically created a smaller watch, more in keeping with the he DJ36 proportions. Doesn’t make the DJ2 mis-proportioned in any way. Now you can call me biased if you like, but my collection contains 4 DJ2’s, All baton dial fluted variants and I really enjoy them. I also have a DJ36 and DD36 but the DJ2 fits my wrist size better. Will they be collectors items and rise in value. Well the answer to the first point…yes, I believe they will become desirable to future DJ collectors. The baton dials are essentially a modern day wideboy, and just look how desirable wideboys are on the vintage market. Also, all I can say is all my DJ2’s are worth more now than what I paid for them, so they’re already on the rise just like most Rolex references. The DJ2 is also an incredibly robust watch. It has an incredibly robust, accurate movement and they are built like tanks. The jury is still out on DJ41 movements where many have reported problems which are absent on the DJ2. Most threads I read here on TRF written by DJ2 owners state they won’t be parting with them and thats the same for me as well. I personally wouldn’t replace any of mine with the DJ41 equivalents, but thats not to say I don’t like the DJ41, it’s a great watch, but for me it doesn’t better the DJ2. I still think if you place a fluted baton blue dial DJ2 next to a fluted blue dial DJ41, the DJ2 is still the better looking watch, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it’s different strokes for different folks. |

Maybe Somebody will concoct an error dial story or some dial text difference in 2025

DJ II is a great piece IMHO. I own one and a DJ 41 also. I know a bunch of folks that own and like both. To each their own.

Yes it will be collectible because they don’t make it anymore. Yes it will rise in value. It’s rise will coincide with DJ41 price rises over time.
Collectibility and desirability are different. I believe the first part will exist because it was out for a relatively short run and is rarer than the DJ41, and by the looks of things will last longer in the catalogue than the DJII did. Whether a collector likes it because of rarity or desirability is a different subject. Oh and I’m wearing mine today |

I am one of the few here who prefers the more robust and bolder DJ2. I have mine and would never sell it to have it replaced with the new version. No way. Its a thought that never crossed my mind. I like the proportions of the DJ2.

No one loved the GMT's either in the 90's....The Pepsi looked so dated, there was one in every AD's window and you only saw them on the wrist of grey haired medallion men.....or Magnum lol.
