I would bet that demand is probably similar, but fewer GMTs are made. I have heard from more than one SA that Submariners really aren’t all that uncommon — they’re just very heavily requested.

I tend to pay attention to people’s watches, and in NYC I’d say that for every GMT I see, I see at least 5-10 Submariners. Obviously not scientific, but that ratio has seemed pretty consistent over an extended period of time. So take that for whatever it’s worth.

I have no idea how to answer your question, but you have two really nice watches.

Sub vs gmt

I think the Submariner is still the sport watch of choice. And a fine one too!
The GMT would be the Traveller / pilot watch of choice.
Maybe it’s popular on social media because it is harder to obtain?

Do you need a GMT function ? - then yea a GMT is a better watch. Don't? then a Sub is just fine. GMT's are the 'in' thing at the moment, filters down through all the instagram bullshit as the watch to have at the moment. Fine with me as I hate seeing mint Subs with tweed suits even more than the GMT. As much as I try to fight it, I still think that the Modern Rolex with white gold accents and glossy dials / bezels have lost their identity as tool watches and are now portrayed as luxury items.

But im a little bitter as I can't get one without paying grey market prices :)

They both have their place in a collection especially if you go for the GMT with jubilee imo.

I think they both are awesome watches!

Agreed.

Just think of the functions of you have to compare them. If you travel and need the gmt hand, you are covered.

If you are going diving deeper than 100 meters, you are covered.

I wear my GMT while flying as a commercial airline pilot--BLRO or BLNR on jubilee. The second I walk in the door after a trip the Submariner goes on the wrist. Love them both for different reasons. If forced to choose the BLRO would stay.
