Understood. Thanks much for clarification. I am looking at it from both perspective , of use and long term price appreciation.

THIS IS A ROLEX WATCH DISCUSSION FORUM AND NOT A PRICE OR INVESTMENT OR DISCOUNT DISCUSSION FORUM SO IF YOU HAVE A QUERY REGARDING PRICES, INVESTMENTS OR DISCOUNTS THEN MAKE YOUR OWN PERSONAL ENQUIRIES AND INVESTIGATIONS AND DO NOT POST THOSE ISSUES HERE.

So with that rule out of the way. What does your heart want?

I suggest investing a few hours of your time reading threads on here.

It will be time well spent as you will learn a lot (ie not calling it a Rolly) and give you more ideas of what is and isn't available and likely cost to attain.

Don't buy something off the investment potential. Buy what you like. If you like OP39 go for it. If not, don't.

Buy whatever speaks to you. I went with a sub date. May not be the flashiest watch but it’s Rolex in its purest form.

OP39 is a trash investment. At least get a DJ2 or DJ41 fluted.

For a 10k beginner Rolex budget, you can also look at these references/models -- 16610, 14060 or 16570. They will be 15-20 years old but classics.

Most solid 16610s are above 10k already. Best bet is a 14060 or a 16570 right now. 16570 is going to be 10k average soon, so now is the time.

Dont buy anything

Keep the $10k and save another $10-20k and buy a investment property.

Since your post is about future potential or investment a $10k Rolex even if it went up 50% and was worth $15k aint going to do jack crap to your life and change it at all.

A proper investment can change your life immensely. I bought my first house when I was 21 years old whilst at university full time and working full time in a call center job for around $200k with a loan obviously.

It has now quadrupled in price to close to $1M. THAT is life changing. A $10k Rolex is a crap investment.

Now because of my investments I can afford any Rolex I want. That is how it should be done. DO NOT buy toys like luxury watches before you can.

⬆️⬆️⬆️ This. My advice mirrors others. At least by my own personal standards, these modern Rolex are not good investments, unless you score a rainbow Daytona or Tiffany 5711 at retail, then flip it, that’s a decent investment. But, if your definition of an investment is a few hundred , or a thousand or two made ….get basically most rolex right now at retail, and you’ll make some $$ when you sell.
Buy what you’ll enjoy looking at most on your wrist! THAT’S your best investment

You buy a watch to tell the time, you buy stocks and shares as investments.

Rolex make great watches, watches that are highly sought after and very much in demand, you will have to wait a while at the AD if you want to buy one from them, if you want to skip the queue and buy from a grey market dealer then expect to pay considerably more than the AD's price.

If you hope to buy your watch and sell it for a profit soon after getting it then you will need to buy from the AD to maximise your profit, but if you go down this route you won't be popular as flippers aren't usually well liked, despised may be more appropriate.

Buy your Rolex with the intent to wear it and enjoy it for many many years and you will be rewarded with a watch that will still be ticking long after you are not, it is a watch that you can pass to your children for them to wear and enjoy.

Read the threads on the forum, take on board the information they contain and get into the wonderfully rewarding yet at times frustrating world of Rolex ownership.

Tangential, but I've always wondered why using the nickname, "Rollie" or "Rolly" is not ok, but we regularly call watches by nicknames?

Hulk, Batman, Batgirl, Pepsi, Coke, Smurf, Bluesy, Rootbeer, Starbucks, Kermit, etc. are all used regularly but Rollie is frowned upon?

I have to agree with my fellow members. Investing in a SP500 ETF is a better place for your $10,000.

If you have access to hot watches at retail then do it. Something tells me if you could have purchased a Sub or GMT you would have.

Lots of young people do not realize that the bank does not care about your Rolex but they do care about your stocks. When you want to buy a house, business, commercial real estate, your Rolex will not help you but your stocks will.

Listen, getting rich with Rollys is easy, all you have to do is buy low and sell high. My trouble is I can never bring myself to sell one. I think I’m doing this wrong.

Well ‘Rolex’ is as easy to say as “Rollie”. You can shorten Lamborghini to Lambo as it makes sense, but shortening and already short name doesn’t really. It’s also just a bit of a “bro” phrase.

I don’t know why, but for some reason I’m ok with Pepsi, Coke and Rootbeer. Maybe even Kermit. Perhaps because these have been used for decades.

The rest really bug me. Nothing more so than Starbucks. It’s irrational, but it’s the way it is.

Personally... 1st Rolly... I'd go for a SS Panda Daytona... Bit more of a statement and should be pretty easy to get from your local AD

Have a look at the daily 'WRUW' threads from the last few months. Lots of cool watches on display reflecting Rolex, Tudor, Omega, Breitling, AP, PP, and other brands. Some research just might help your decision-making process as to which individual model(s) to focus in on. Imho, you should buy a watch for its functionality, ruggedness, capability, looks, history, 'fun factor', and daily wearability. Enjoy the search!
