Same here. Been on the list for 5 years now... Last time (about a year ago) I asked the AD said that propably still 7-10 years. So only two thirds to go!

…if you’re waiting more than a year for a Submariner, it’s time to start looking at another brand.

Speaking with my AD (where I waited 2 months for a sub no-date) as I have purchase history, he said, there are about 20-50 ppl putting their name down expressing interest for a watch everyday. I am in Hong Kong, where there are like 20-30 ADs (or more).

So those without purchase history have no chance, but a polite conversation from the SA, or maybe a cateloge.

Yeah a year is a long time. I tried forgoing the whole waitlist and expense of the Submariner by purchasing the Pelagos. Great watch but the Submariner has special meaning to me. I guess I am stuck waiting, ugh..
When I finally decided to buy I had no idea what was going on in the watch market. I thought you could just walk in and buy a watch.

I still don't understand why there are all of a sudden so many people who want to buy a Rolex RIGHT NOW but didn't want any 3-5-10 years ago? Because you can't get one, you want to get one?

Did everyone hit the jackpot? This is no stimulus check either or printed money.

You might get lucky & receive the call in the months ahead, for example I reached out to my local mayors September 2020 roughly when these were first released then received the call April 2021 for mine. Gl.

There’s no “official waiting list”.
You’re name is on an expression of interest with that particular AD.
Best of luck!

Always a difficult situation and many forgo the AD games and go into the secondary market and make the purchase. I have been in the collecting game for more than 30 years and I have a great relationship with my AD that goes back that far. I have purchased Rolex watches from them before the market went crazy but not so much since. I am of the thought that when I make a purchase you are not doing me a favor, I am doing you one as a retailer. I also believe that the watch is then my property and I can do with it as I please. If I decide to sell/trade/gift or just beat it with a hammer then it is my choice. We are really talking about money, not watches, when you say you want it from the AD. It would be nice to get an asset, yes it is, and have the value go up 25% from what you pay, immediately. But the chances of getting one in a reasonable time frame are at best limited. The incoming stories here are nice but I think they give people false hope. If everyone posted the put me on the list/when can I get a watch/and how long have you been waiting stories it would be almost all we would see. All of this to say, go find the watch you want from a Trusted Seller, negotiate, pay and have the watch the next day by lunch. Then you can get on with the ownership experience. By the way, I think your Pelagos is superior to the Submariner on most levels except it does not have the Rolex logo on it. I own a Submariner and a SD43 and all four Pelagos watches. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

There is a topic on reddit where people post/write how long they have waited.

The trend I'm seeing and hearing (posted on here as well) is that a lot of people who DO NOT own a Rolex are getting them and the wait time is often less than 1 year (regular SUB/DJ/YM/OP). Rolex wants to spread the wealth, have new clients buy and wear them instead of everyone else from flippers/collectors/long time clients.

Sure VIPS and long time clients will get their fare share but the big percentage goes or has to go to new clients.

Then i guess you don’t understand the power of social media and hype. (Not that OP is is buying bc of hype). Me personally Ive always wanted a rolex collection but couldnt afford it back then bc i was still in school and didn’t have the same means i do today. Also, the release of more 6digits/ceramic models like the daytona, DJ41 and DD40 models in the recent years were a big attractor for me.

I have wanted a Submariner for almost 40 years and I kick myself for not buying one earlier. I had a chance back in 2000 to purchase one at the PX in Bosnia for something like $2,500. At the time that was just too much for a watch for my wife and I. We were raising kids on a single military income.

I am now in the financial position to afford the Sub. The hype had nothing to do with me wanting a Submariner. I had no idea what was going on in the watch market until I went into the AD. I just finished a 5 year restoration of a 1969 Camaro. Most of my internet time was spent researching it.

Do yourself a big favor and don't play these idiotic "list" games with these ADs. They'll take your information and keep you on the line for months and months, maybe even years. In the meantime, you could pay more and have exactly what you want within a couple of days. It took a big bite, but I'm angry at myself for waiting as long as I did to start with. I should have NEVER allowed that garbage to go on past 6 months, tops. Wait if you want, you may get lucky, but believe me the odds of that are long indeed.

Not the best advice! A black sub is obtainable I was lucky enough to get it quite quickly with no purchase history.

Hope you get it my friend for your 50th Birthday. The ND sub is a great choice!!! I am in love with mine and I’m sure you will love it also. I’ve heard that is much harder to ge the ND than the Date version because they don’t get as many as the DAte versions.

I called several AD's and resellers over several months. I called the AD where I had a history and was told it might take a year. I continued calling other AD's and I asked one associate how to go about getting a Sub without waiting forever. She asked for my zip code which is about 60 miles away but in their "local" selling area. I told her my birthday was in May and wanted one by May 7. She suggested I come in the store and meet an associate and try on an exhibition model. I took her advice and I visited the AD March 14 and tried on a Sub not for sale. The associate completed a card of our wants and birthdates, anniversary, etc. while they cleaned my wife's Lady-Datejust President. The associate said that they received several watches weekly and she could get me what I wanted within a couple of months. Two weeks later we returned to make a $1000+ purchase for my wife. The following day, I got the call! Actually I got two calls, one from a reseller offering me a used Sub for about 5K more. If you want instant gratification, buy from a trusted seller. If you want a fresh new in the box Rolex for up to 10K less, buy from your AD...

I bought my GMT II out of the case 20 years ago with a slight discount when I graduated, spent a lotta money on dumb stuff in my 20s, spent my 30s getting settled and establishing a life, and now have the disposable income to treat myself again

It was a coin toss between the Sub and the GMT 20 years ago, but I opted for the splash of color with the Pepsi, and now want to get the other so that both of my sons can have one when the time comes...

Great sentiment. I hope to leave my son my watches — several from a few brands, including a couple Rolex. I still have a few on my wish list — damn this obsession/hobby! I’ve found patience keeps me in the proper mental state when it comes to building the collection.

My grail is the GMT that you’re wearing. I couldn’t justify the expense all those years ago, and now that I can they’re just so pricey in pristine condition. So more patience required.

Good luck to you in your quest and wear them in good health!

Sure, I believe you guys buy there are people who are not into watches and simply do it because of hype and everyone else is doing it. Just like all the people who jumped into Bitcoin a couple of years ago and got burned when it went down again. They just wanted a quick buck.

I’ve noticed it with people in my circles as well. Never cared for watches but now they want a submariner and recognize a 5711.

Why you wanted a Submariner? What a ridiculous, if not to say impertinent question! For goodness sake, we're talking about a watch here, albeit a most desirable one. All I´d give an AD (and all they need to know) is my name and telephone number. And personally I don't believe in these "waiting lists", but that's just me. Good luck in getting a Submariner!

I know ADs like to give Rolex to those celebrating a special occasions, probably one reason they ask.

Not only is every AD different, it matters where you are in the country too. In NY city and surrounding suburbs its very hard to get a submariner date. I been asking AD for over a year now. Still waiting

I think a lot of us here are in a similar boat and it's just about priorities. Twenty years ago I could have bought one, and I was actually deciding between the sub and an Explorer 1. For whatever reason, and it's not a good one in hindsight, I ended up passing on both! Then my priorities changed over the years and while I was on all of the forums and was researching the history of the watches I liked, it wasn't really on my radar again to actually seriously purchase one until the last couple of years with some big milestones. In 2020 I bought the blue Explorer dial OP36, which I personally think is far better than the Explorer I was looking at all those years ago, and now when I eventually get the new sub that will also be substantially better than the original sub I was looking at way back then in 2002. So in the end, I'll end up with the two watches that I originally wanted, but I'll have much better versions of both of them. Win win!
