You can keep trying, I would use anniversary’s, birthdays, etc as a reason. But the SS Daytona is really the only one on my radar that seems next impossible to get at retail. TT very easy, datejust easy, Subs not to hard, gmt a little patience you will get one, but Daytona has been very tough for me. Still would never go grey, it’s nuts, not worth it, and I don’t need any watch that bad.

Speedy or Zenith. It’s a tough pill to swallow but without history at your AD it’ll be very difficult to get a Daytona from them. The other thing you have to consider is if you end up getting one for msrp , are you really going to be comfortable wearing a 40-50 k watch on the street ?

If your carpe diem then just go buy it on the gray market dealer and get it in your hands tomorrow.
They are coming down right now anyway so probably best wait a few months and see where they end up. Might save you $10k+ maybe more. |

If you really like the engineering behind watches, the Speedmaster is probably your best and possible option right now. The transparent case back also allows one to admire the movement closer. Combined with its involvement with NASA, it’s the closest thing to an engineer’s watch. |

I decided to move up to a gold oysterflex Daytona. Still really hard to get but easier then a ceramic. I’ve been offered two different oysterflex Daytona’s (and turned them down) while waiting for the one I requested so hopefully it will come eventually.
If not I agree with the Speedmaster recommendations. There are tons of models and colors and I love mine. Ignoring the hype it is just as beautiful as a ceramic Daytona. |

As others have said- massively unlikely to score a "new" one from an AD, though a "Like New" can be bought at great expense from a grey.
And if I was thinking of paying $50k+ for a $13K watch, and wanted "engineering" I'd be looking at a pre owned gold Lange 1 Zeitzone for $38K, a nice Speedy or Breguet 3817 XXI... not mine but I wish it were: Maybe look at the Speedmaster Racing master chronos too- automatic, with a date, METAS certified "engineering" and Speedmaster good looks.

Your odds are 99% impossible that an AD will sell you a stainless steel Daytona as your first purchase from them. And anyone who is legitimately waiting on one will pay whatever price it is on arrival, you don’t “lock in” a price on a Rolex.
When I got mine in 2019, MSRP was $12400. There have been two US price increases since first to $13150, then $14550. PS: this situation is world wide, there is no place on earth it will be any different. |

I was in your exact position starting in 2017 looking for that exact watch, the black SS Daytona. I had no options/AD relationships since my previous Rolex's were all bought pre-hype, from grey's for less than MSRP.
After speaking with dozens of AD's for YEARS it was very apparent that none would be selling me a SS Daytona as a first watch with them. Then in 2020 I got extremely lucky when I realized an extremely close friend does a lot of business directly with the owner of a Rolex AD, and they were willing to request a favor for me. This friend was able to get me the watch from this AD in 1 month, which was a shock, and totally awesome. So I guess my recommendation here is, explore other possible routes to getting this through an AD...do you know any VIP clients who would do you a favor, people who do business with an AD, maybe you are in an industry where you can barter your services with a boutique? Not conventional of course, but maybe that's an option for you. If not, I would say just walking in and consistently asking is not going to make it happen unfortunately...not unless you're willing to buy other pieces first, build a strong relationship where the AD likes you personally, and of course wait. |

As others have mentioned it'll be impossible to source one direct from an AD at MSRP without spending bookoo bucks.
Your options are : Grey Market Rolex Daytona Omega Speedmaster Zenith El Primero Chronomaster |

Life is too short. Go grey and get what you want tomorrow. Next month you would've forgotten what you paid for it because all you'll do is admire the watch. Speaking from experience of course.

Couple of years ago I managed to snag a BLRO from an AD with no prior history - which was a minor miracle - but the chance of an AD selling you an SS Daytona is all but nil.
Your options: go gray or move to another brand. |

or Zenith chrono.
Sorry noobs (although I'm thinking this is a troll post -- "I dont have instagram or social media to follow trends..." How would you know about trends then) It's less than unlikely you get the Daytona with no purchase history unless you know the owner of an AD. Even then you would probably wait a year or two. |

You will never get a steel Daytona from an AD without any purchase history. Plus if you don’t want to go second hand market you will never own a steel Daytona.

You won’t get it in 5 years, so go grey or buy a moon watch.

Your options? Simple. First you haven't acquired enough points to show up tomorrow and buy a Daytona from your AD, or you can quit. There'd be no disgrace. That state of the Rolex market is hell, it would've shook me up.

My AD blatantly told me to go to suggested Greys if I wanted any sports models. That's the sad state of things nowadays.
and welcome to TRF! |
