Because Rolex unfortunately decided to bow to the "look at me bling bling" crowd and sells the reference as man jewelry instead of what it was originally purposed for
- A pilots watch. If they won't offer a factory brushed finish then I guess its on me to make that happen.

I wear mine in the cockpit for all of my work trips and it is a useful tool. Having mirror finish PCL's will do nothing but reflect bright light in the cockpit which is obnoxious and attract unsightly scratches as it gets banged around throughout my daily routine at the airport, pre flighting the jet, etc.

I could care less about value retention, I buy watches for myself to enjoy. I've never sold one off and don't have any plans to ever do that.

Why can't they bring back less "shiny" GMT2??

Do you need a GMT? If it’s a concern, then there are lots of nice watches out there that aren’t so blingy. Maybe get an EXP II?!?!?

One thing though…if a loved isn’t going to recover, I’m pretty sure your watch is the least of their concerns.

That’s pretty procedure heavy. I personally wouldn’t wear an expensive watch at all in that scenario. I wore a Kenneth Cole that I beat to hell through all of residency. But that advice is unsolicited.

As far as anyone noticing your watch, I don’t think they will particularly care, especially in critical care situations. They likely won’t even notice you’re wearing a watch. But if they do, it’s not going to be the PCLs, it’s going to be the bezel and the cyclops. The cyclops is what gives it away as a pricey watch.

I bought a new Pepsi GMT and a VTNR, immediately took the PCL bracelet off and sent to LaWatch Works.

Each cost about $125 for brushing, and media blast around the "crown" clasp.

Flawless and wearable with out that being feel !

Really happy with the outcome, as my original 16700 has both bracelets, and my preference is for the brushed look of old.

Doesn’t bother me or any of my patients. In fact, all my partners wear nice watches and it doesn’t bother them or their patients

Stick to the 5 digit then since it’s your preference.

I may be biased because my dad is an MD, but I know how hard he worked to get where he is and I would never begrudge or think less of a Dr. for wearing a nice watch. I think you may be reading too much into it. When the physicians at a specialty burn unit came out of surgery to tell me my best friend didn’t make it, I couldn’t even tell you what they looked like let alone what watch they were wearing. Unfortunately that’s a hard part of medicine, and kudos to you for considering how you come across to patients and their loved ones, but in my personal experience it won’t matter. That said, if it makes you feel uncomfortable then wear something less flashy or less well known at work and save your Rolexes for your days off. Thanks for what you do and be proud of what you’ve earned

Interesting. I don’t have your situation but I certainly find myself wearing my submariner LV or JC Sea Dweller way more than the watches I have with PCLs. I really like the PCL look but shy away more than not I guess.

You can always acquire a more dated piece that meets your requirements for lack of polishing, if you don’t mind buying gray.

+1 if the doc has a nice watch hopefully he hasn’t lost any malpractice lawsuits!

Yeah, the only Rolex watches that should have PCLs are the precious metal variants.

Buy the watch and send it out to get the PCL's brushed. It looks great and brushed looks much nicer as it scratches over time.

I don’t really see the “tradition part”. Where I’m from, some of the nicest, shiniest pieces are at the doc’s office.

Also, plenty of what you’re looking for in the used market, and arguably at a better price. The 16710 Coke is one of the best, plus you can change bracelet and inserts easily!

Was just musing today how much I prefer a brushed oyster to anything else on a Rolex.

OP.. why not get a 126710 and brush the bracelet or put a Sub bracelet on it or go for a 5 digit GMT (which is amazing).

No, I don't think you're alone, but no, I don't think what you want is coming back, either.

However, the good news is, and I'm assuming the watch in the photograph is yours, why would you want it to?

Seriously, though, while we watch aficionados think the five digit version is so much less "bling," the truth of the matter is in the real world, the watch pictured is a real head turner. My neighbor has the Pepsi version, and it's just stunning.

My meaning? You wear that thing around someone who has at least one partly functioning eyeball and one gram of common sense, and they're gonna know you've got a heck of a nice watch.

FWIW, I'm on board with the Tudor suggestions. These days, I wear a BBGMT on leather, which helps me hold down the bling in my collection to a minimum lol...at least until Rolex comes to their senses and brings back the aluminum bezel, lug holes, and brushed bracelet and puts that all together with the six digit clasp. At that point, the Tudor, along with a bunch of my other watches, are going to get significantly less wrist time.

They could but why would Rolex want to make less shiny high end luxury jewelry?

Why can't they bring back less "shiny" GMT2??

This just seems like an excuse to complain about PCL’s. Plenty of people don’t like them and prefer the brushed bracelet, nothing wrong with that. Using your profession as a reason for not having PCL’s is silly imo.

Yeah, Rolex should just get rid of brushing completely and polish the entire watch. In fact, they should just get rid of the movement and dial and put a huge diamond in its place.

Nothing is stopping you from having the bracelet or case brushed. Several members have done this.
