Have to agree thats the most important bit, as today most of the packaging stuff are far easier to fake than the watch.

For me Box and Papers means green box and outer box with card, green tag, and two booklets. Anything else like bezel protector, white tag, white sleeve is a bonus because some ADs don't give them to buyers. If you get anything less than Both boxes and papers for new reference then the grey dealer is stealing from you unless they tell you and you agree. Some even steal some links.

For me, "box and papers" means a period-correct box and original Rolex certificate or card. Not a service card from RSC or a 3rd party.
"Full" or "complete" set means the above plus all the paraphernalia (tags, booklets, etc.) Note that the tag with the serial # is also not replaceable (but some ADs keep those). |

IMHO, it is strange if a relatively new watch (1-5 years old) hasn't got at least the certificate of authenticity, the warranty card and the inner box.
For older watches (over 10 years old), I don't think it's important to have these, since fakes were so bad back then that nowadays anyone can easily sort them out. In addition, the year of manufacture can be known precisely, the warranty expired long ago, so usually there is no real benefit to pay a lot more for these. However, there are always exceptions. For example, owning a first series Midas with box + papers can be the real holy grail for many collectors. ![]() |

On my 16610 S serial the AD retained the hang tag on the sale (bought it new on 1995, seems was the norm back then and did not object it) so don’t have it. Here everything else came with (plus some RSC boxes from trips into RSC) so this would be what would call a full set:

"I would say a recent Rolex Service Card with the current owners name and serial number of the watch." For instance, I've had my Day-Date and Submariner both serviced by RSC. The watches are now registered in my name, and I was provided with the Green Rolex Service Card with my name on it including the watches serial number. Of course if the original of this is present, even better. And I never even mentioned, "white hang tag", I've read some AD's keep those anyhow. This would be the most important thing for me, the rest is icing on the cake. Now it looks like the post above mine ^^^, is the Full Monty, perfect....lol! Fantastic! ![]() |

Basically everything thing that comes with the watch at time of purchase except the bag and the outer yellowish box. That’s what box and papers mean to me.
I don’t buy used watches anyway so it’s sort of a moot point to me. I’m not selling any either, but I still keep everything that came with the watch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

when I say box and papers, I mean the original green box and the certificate/warranty card. though for some models you may also want to have the white hang tag which specifies the original dial colour of the watch.

A bezel protector from 1977/78 - someone added that - not original.
It is missing the green GMT hang tag.

Very relevant post - having the same conversation with a dealer yesterday - for a 2022 delivered watch the picture was lacking everything other than the watch, box ( inner and outer) and guarantee card. Ok, that is the minimum I expect for a new watch but then when pushed they confirmed guarantee booklet, instruction and tags are there too. He will send another picture. It does feel hard work and although the watch is key, if all papers are available I want them.

Unfortunately stealing the links is a very common practice I’ve seen in my line of work. Which is why all my listings state the number of links and the gram weight of the watch. I always err on more information on my listings than too little. I figure if someone wants to buy a watch from our store, they should know that information. Thanks for your comment. Please keep them coming ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I guess everything that you took home with you after the purchase. I have everything that came with my sub from the AD save for the plastic store bag. What exactly that is depends on the model and the year and some are given extra stuff at times. I recall the plastic stickers and bezel guard on my 116520, but don't think the 5 digits came that way.

Rolex also gave out SWAG years back. Many Day-Dates would have originally had a matching notebook and silk scarf along with a calendar card in a wallet.
