I can confirm this statement. My first watch was my TAG, and I paid $1300 for it brand new in 2000. Now it sells for about $300-400 on eBay, if you're lucky enough to get that much. I don't remember the model, but it's ss and looks like a typical dive watch. I still have it because I love it and wear it on the weekends. Still works, too!

I actually prefer wrist shots from about 5 ft away so i can get a better idea of how it looks in totality. Usually guys flexing Rolexes on their wrists look like they're wearing their dad's watch.

Fake or real doesn't matter to me as much as it used to. If i were dealing with that person I jsut want to know that they're genuine. I don't care if it's fake or not, long as they tell me. There's a lot of fun in replicas esp when everythign is unavaiable but on the manager's desk, under the main case, or subject to owner's discretion.

Without the fakes we wouldn't know how overpriced these things were.

Submariner should be a Tudor pelagos 39 + $1000 for brand name. Same watch essentially, one is polished better.

Daytona should be a Tudor chrono + $1000 for brand name. Same watch essentially, one is polished better but actually less material.

Precious metal daytona should be the price of the current stainless daytona. By every account, gold is easier to form than stainless. So if the material difference of $7000 is there, then $14500 for a precious metal daytona will ALSO have profit margins.

But yeah, i bought a precious metal daytona, not even the full metal, just a rubber. Yes i sipped the coolaid.

Maybe but the average IG surfers can't discern the authenticity of these Patek/AP/Rolex. They would be thinking "he/she has one and looks so cool", "I also need to get them to flex", "why is he/she wearing a Rolex and this brand keeps showing up in IG. If it a very good watch. I need to get one then", "if Rolex is a symbol of success, I should get one to flex too".

Investment, speculation and value are not likely in their minds. They are thinking more of "likes" and acceptance in their own social media bubble. This won't go away any time soon, and more kids around the world will grow up with that same mindset.

oh yeah, absolutely, I don't disagree at all.

I was more just making my comment to actually reiterate your point, that's it's all completely an illusion of wealth and having a luxury lifestyle.
