Call me in the middle of the nigt Jen, they have reruns of Jeapordy about 3AM, you and I can play against the TV!!!!

Bighat, really interested to hear how that works out, please let us know. One thing I do is have white noise (soothing) play in my bedroom through the stereo, that helped wonders as it drums out the street noise, or anything else going on that might keep you awake.

I haven't tried that Melatonin, or Valeran, it works pretty well? I'm all for a natural solution to this.... Hey, maybe if I do this before I go to bed it will work! --->

I don't have insomnia, however I am a very light sleeper. If something wakes me up during the night, it can take me sometimes up to a half hour before I can get back to sleep. It also takes me awhile to fall asleep once I hit the pillow. I also have to take into consideration that I'm on my laptop EVERY NIGHT before I go to bed, so viewing that bright screen for 3-4 hours before I sleep probably isn't the best thing for me to do. Also, I NEVER take naps, I should probaly start lol
For those of us here who DO have insomnia, that must be really tough ! I couldn't imagine not getting at least 6 hours of sleep. However, going on the computer, or reading a book does sound like a good idea to keep occupied at 2AM.

But your 3 AM is my... 6 AM?

Melatonin doesn't do much for me.

Benadryl knocks me out but gives me a hangover. I've been taking Ambien lately more than I'd like.

I actually got rid of my bedroom clock so that I don't stare at the time

The older I get, the more difficult it is to fall asleep and stay asleep. I'm at the point now where my dog makes too much noise when the blood coarses through her veins - it's very annoying. When I can't sleep I get up, half asleep and sign on to this web site. I end up laughing like a bastid and waking myself up. Then the cycle repeats itself the next night. I don't count sheep because I don't like intruding on JJ's "partners."

Do most members use their alarm clock? I have not used one in years since I always wake up between 5 am and 6 am when I oversleep!

When I have to get up early for work, I always use the alarm clock on the IPhone to wake me up (usually for 6:30, or 7AM). Most of the time though, I wake up a few minutes before the alarm goes off anyway lol (I guess I have an internal clock that keeps better time then a Quartz lol). Speaking of sleep, I beleive I'm heading for bed. It's 11:25PM, and I'm beat.

The alarm clock ring is the most annoying sound in the world!! Well, almost. Trying to decide if JJ squealing is worse!

After a had a major operation in January of this year, I had a very hard time sleeping through the night. At times I would get up and just surf the internet. What do others do?

Allan, hope all went well with your surgery. I'd imagine one would be quite bored sitting at home all day for weeks after a surgery.
When I have to let time pass (like I do everyday of my life since I have no friends, and absolutely no social life to begin with lol) I spend most of my time on my laptop, and here on TRF.

It was pretty bad in the hospital. For the first 4 days I just stared into space because of the pain. Couldn't focus on TV or anything. I was just thankful when I finally got home. The only thing I could do when I first got home was to sit in a chair, go to sleep on the coach next to the chair and go to the bathroom. I wasn't able to go back to work for about 2 months after my surgery. The really amazing thing is how easy it was to forget about how bad it was in the hospital and recovering.

I have a little pad by my bed that I write on. It's funny to read when I'm not trying to sleep.

Monday night I wrote: RUN AWAY! TO PARIS!!! SHHH!
I've got no idea what that was about
