I was in WoS just the other day, getting my friend signed up (I introduced the SA to him).
I was told that the current WoS guidelines for getting on the list for a GMT, Sub or DD is closed to 'new' clients. They will however sign you up for 3 Rolexes which can be YM, Explorer I/II and DateJust. They are also limiting purchases to one classic and one sports per year.

Sounds like it may be worth a punt then for me as I am after a datejust. Although I wouldn’t be surprised if they end up saying the one I want is too popular…. I will give it a go and report back.

If problematic, I’ll just wait and get one grey. I’ve been monitoring for a couple of months and the prices are definitely falling.

WoS group in UK

I managed to acquire a RG Chocolate Daytona this year.

I have a modest, not excessive Rolex spend history with Goldsmiths & one non Rolex purchase with a Watches of Switzerland store.

Guess I was kinda lucky to get offered the Daytona, but believe WoS group don’t reserve everything for VIP’s like some Independents do.

Obviously a decent spend history helps but you’ve got as good a chance as any of getting the good stuff with them as anyone else.

I'm very lucky having bought 6 Rolex from WOS since 2018 as well as Jewellery for my partner and numerous Tudor and Omega watches.

However I have totally lost hope of buying from WOS again anytime soon, every enquiry is brushed off with the usual request of "Buy more none Rolex items and we will consider selling you a Rolex" from my registered 3 watch wish list.

Problem is as I see it is that the AD manager (Who has changed several times at my local AD over the years) makes the policy of allocating watches and this can change as they feel fit. So customer loyalty is non existent, If your face fits or your related to the manager your selected and bingo you have won a watch.

WOS group policy of allocating watches is a total farce, they tell you "Don't register with more than one AD" but still supply individuals who are registered at several AD's !

They insist on you deciding and providing a "Wishlist of only 3 watches" but offer no guarantee that you will ever receive one or the timescale !

Trying to build a relationship with an individual AD Sales Assistant or Manager is only of moderate benefit in my opinion.

Sadly I have seen recently several known Flippers sitting in my AD taking delivery of the latest hot Rolex only for it to appear for sale as fast as they can cash in.

So for myself in my experience WOS is bitter sweet, in the past I've bought Rolex when no one else wanted them, now the tables have turned and I can wait on a list that I don't know how long it is or when I can actually buy and take delivery.

I have started to move away from Rolex and bought Breguet and JLC as they treat customers well and value them.

My NYC experience was classic yesterday. I had a meeting near their flagship store, so stopped in as it has been radio silence for over 12 months.
I flagged down and asked the SA who had helped with me 5 watches in 2019/2020, whether I was still on the “imaginary list” for my two preferred pieces. She said I was, However my profile indicated that I was too heavy on Rolex.
Well I asked “ what would move me up”?
Buying a JLC or IWC would help
Oh and to add insult to injury, I overheard another SA telling a customer that they could ship at a cost of $500!
What a business model they get away with……

Worth a shot. Last time I spoke to them, they would register me for a datejust but not a sports model.

I’m not after a datejust though so we didn’t get into the specifics of selecting a particular colour/ bezel/ dial. I’ve got a small spend history (£5k-ish) but it’s irrelevant to them as it’s just over 10 years old.

Congrats, that's great!

On this side of the pond we have WoS' company Mayors and i think timepieces are kinda 'assigned' at a higher level to be fair to all (so when mgr or SA changes you're still golden). Maybe the occasional choice by the mgr/SA, but generally you ask and wait until the text/phone rings.

Now that the horology market has crested from this recent bubble, am glad we're getting to 'the other side' of this. Since this recent bubble has added many new enthusiasts, which is great, am not sure how supply/demand will be, yet loving the many new creations and independents who are doing extremely well. That's not at all in any way a jab at Rolex, as they're awesome and doing great! It is to say we're seeing glorious expansion, creativity flourish, and an expanding enthusiastic audience.

As for how this will all end?

Only time will tell.

My experience of them has been better in 2022. Heard nothing from them 2020 and 2021.
My sense is they are trying to be fairer and not just keep the watches for the whales. I got a Green OP 41 earlier this year. in my dealings with them, buying other brands as well counts for a lot with them.

I found WOS to be easy to deal with. First registered mid 21 and since than have picked up multiple Rolex from them since. In contrast Laings were the opposite.

As with anything, relationship is key.

(I had no prior spend with either and my total spend to date has been solely Rolex watches that i requested)

I was told pretty much this by my SA. Good for them.

Interesting. I have been hearing similar things about Laings.

That is good to know. Good for them and for the overall industry.
