Fellow NY'ers, how safe do you feel wearing your Rolex watch in NYC?

i haven’t been wearing my watches for a while in manhattan.

doesn’t seem like that will change anytime soon.

a lot of close friends and family
members are NYPD, some detectives, some sargeant and lieutenants and they are all in seperate precincts throughout the city.

talk to the people who deal with this on a daily basis, and i can assure you crime in the city is nowhere near “overblown”

it is a problem and getting worse.

not saying “avoid the city it is extremely unsafe” as i’m in the city 4-5 times a week and i still love nyc….but the reality is the reality.

I feel for people who are there (NYC) (I choose not to go there) I live in Texas where this happens a fraction of the time it happens in places it does like NYC. We all know why. I won't specifically say why here (at the risk of being banned)

Common sense folks. Criminals are everywhere really doesn't matter where you live. In a large city criminals take your shit in your face. In the suburbs they wait until you leave your house, wipe their feet and proceed. Either way it's a crime, doesn't matter where you live. Common sense folks and don't show off. Simple.

Born and raised in Brooklyn (left for good six years ago). I wore my watches most places, but not everywhere. I’ve been mugged by gunpoint a couple of times when I was a kid, but that was while visiting friends in rough areas (Coney Island PJs). Definitely have to be extra careful up there with something like a Rolex on, unless you’re spending all your time in the “upper scale” areas.

I was in NYC midtown last week. There were people everywhere and what seemed like tons of small children walking with their parents. I felt completely safe the whole time. All I noticed is the construction all over the place. Seemed like every other side walk was closed for facade work. Have not been to NYC since before the pandemic and the watch stores, I visited did not have much inventory and so many brands have gone boutique there is not nearly the eye candy in one place anymore.

As someone who can now WFH and avoid NYC commuting I am a very happy camper, and I can pair any watch / GAP sweat suit combination I want.

If you plan to take subway at late night, I would not wear my expensive watch. I drive 95% of the time, I have no problem wearing my watches.

it's pretty recent that it got back to that. lots of companies are forcing more and more people back to the office so it's much more lively now + it's fall so school is back. midtown was pretty empty last year, and earlier this year, almost every day of the week

I just make sure my driver is packing heat. Assuming it’s not a day I travel with security.
