It’s like Rolex asked Taylor Sheridan what to name a watch.

My only concern is that: I would love white gold/white dial, but then there could be problems of legibility...

Anyway... if you phoned, good choice!
I actually did it by text … my SA’s response … “I’ll add it to your list.”

I’ve actually pulled 3 watches out of there, in the last 18 months, though … so I am hopeful.

Came to post this, then again, look at the new Reversos. They’re roughly the same price in gold.

I’d rather just pay more and get a Calatrava, Patrimony, or Saxonia.

I really like this one. I’ve been looking at leather strap dressier watches and the 1815 U/D has been at the top of my last, but this is intriguing. I actually like the WG black dial in photos…

At first I thought this watch was a joke. Now I can see that they meant it seriously. So, with my blind eyes, I can see in the distance how next year Rolex will invent and show us an absolutely brand new, lugless, gold chain applied pocket watch version of this Smellini.

I let my AD know I'm interested; I'll be anxious to see it in the flesh. I wouldn't be surprised if the 1908 monicker wasn't a reference to the year 1908 shortly after the founding of the company.

yes, its competitor is calatrava 6119
same dimensions, same complication, but not automatic.
calatrava costs 10k more (roughly 32 vs 22)
But I think i would prefer this 1908
less formal with the 3/6/9

I'm not looking for a dress watch right now, but if I will, I'll think about it
+1

WG for me!

I like it - white gold/ brown alligator for me. I don’t own a dress watch and this is exactly the kind of thing I’d like - it’s £20k in the U.K. at retail though which I suppose is similar to the Cellini but too much for me on something to wear a few times a month.

Good move getting rid of the Cellini name and starting again as it had a negative connotation to it for whatever reason.

4. LOVE the hands … soo important on a dress watch.
5. Like a lot the seconds subdial … gives the watch a little spark.
6. Love the lettering / limited lettering on the dial.
7. Love the see through case back.
8. Love the outer / seen part of the clasp.
9. Love the function of the folding clasp.
10. Love that the liner of the strap is Rolex Green.

I’m curious to find out how “thick” it is.

It appears to me that the strap is not padded … indicating to me that the watch is thin (8-9mm)… otherwise they would use a padded strap for balance.

I agree with the comments above that this is remindful of the PP 6119, and that it is slightly less dressy with the three numerals.

The watch is just beautiful … I cannot think of a single critique … Rolex, you nailed it, and thank you for offering a gentlemen’s watch in Yellow Gold.

Though I was a big fan of the most recent, now discontinued, Cellini models, I think this 1908 is a much improved watch.

I hate to say “dress watch”, because that label seems to limit the wearer … I wear my “dress watches” all the time … they look great (and casual) wearing every day, every where, with every wardrobe.

11. I have already reached out to my AD, and asked to be put on the list for this watch.
Thickness around 9 mm. That's what we know for now.

At 16-19k like it's cellini predecessor (non moonphase), this is pretty tempting.

At 22k, it'd a tough pill to swallow.

Lots of 1908 going to be bought as "relationship pieces."

$22K minus the standard 10-15% discount, puts this watch right in your ballpark !!!

i like it at 16k - white gold, black dial for me.

And i had a rose gold cellini dual time. OTD after tax was like 19k. That's with a complication.

So i am buyer of this type of rolex. Wish they had 100m wr like the old cellini. For what reason? Because.

I really like this in YG with the cream dial. One of the highlights of this years releases for me.

I had an order in for a Cellini when they were discontinued so my order never came through, so this could be in my future.

It’s also thankfully not ridiculously thin like many of its competitors and for me that’s a huge plus because it makes it more of a ‘daily’ dress watch.

Price is $22K, I saw on the website (forget how I got to that page though!).

i think it's gorgeous, and a good replacement appearance-wise to the Cellini, which is now gone from the website so I assume this is it's successor...

I like the dial side but in terms of finishing, although the Côtes de Genève is present (can't see perlage in this pic), I don't really see any rounded chamfering on the edge of the bridge/plates in the 1908. I think the finishing is predominantly machined.
Rolex-Perpetual-1908-Dress-Watch-6.jpg

Compare this with the anglage of the 6119 - although the 6119 is also mostly machined, you can see the edges of the bridge/plates are rounder (signs of human involvement).
patek-philippe-6119-movement-30-255-PS-7.jpg

That said, I think this is a good attempt by Rolex and credits should be given to them for decorating the movement enough to display them.
